The sages teaches that when
anyone read this Torah Portion, we awaken for the world the specific Light
inherent in irts passage. Most Torah
Port ion contain uplifting
events, but on the Shabbath of Ki Tisa, after the instruction on how to
construct the Tabernacle, we read about the destruction caused by the sin of
the Golden calf.
The obvious question is what
is the spiritual objective of Ki Tisa? What type of energy are we awaken on
this Shabbat.
In this Torah Port ion
is the 21st in the Cycle Ki
Tisa means when you take, we are told in this Portion of Ki Tisa on how
to finish our spiritual objective, and after that we are shown the consequence
of sinning.
When belivers fall spiritually
it is the lack of acknowledge, the error of their ways, there is always hope.
However, if a believer falls, and nev er
acknowledge their mistake, there is no opportunity to experience the Laver in
the Tabernacle.
On the Shabbat of Ki Tisa, we
are awaken to the understanding that there was no negativity in the sin of the
Golden Calf. If we view sin for what it is, it is to show us what our fault are
and what we need to fix in order to take advantage of the Tabernacle.
Just like there is nothing
called darkness, it cannot be measured, darkness exist because there is an lack
or absent of Light.
At the moment we achieve
perfection, or the complete light, we will be able to look back on all our
failure during our spiritual journey, and realize that they were not that bad after
all, that all the mistake we have made, were the tools for our perfection.
When we are building a house we need
scaffolding, when the house is finish we get rid of the scaffolding.
This Torah Portion teaches us
that it is forbidden to count the Hebrew people in the ordinary manner, and
when it is necessary to conduct a census in the Wilderness, the people rich or
poor alike, were called upon to contribute half a shekel each, for the
construction of and upkeep of the Tabernacle.
The status of Yisrael is
elevated by its contribution to charity, and this is why they were counted by
having the entire nation join in contributing to a sacred cause. The literal
meaning of the commandment in verse 12 indicates this concept.
When you elevate the heads of
the Children of Yisrael, implying that the function of these contributions was
not only to facilitate a census and to provide for the Tabernacle, but also to
raise the spiritual profile of the contributors.
The equal participation of all
the people symbolizes that all Hebrews must share in achieving the national
goals, that everyone should pass through the census by giving up his selfish,
personal interests for the sake of the nation. One who does so gains infinite
benefit, because the mission of Yisrael is dependent on the unity of the whole
community.
This Torah Portion also speaks
in terms of atonement that is achieved by the participation in this half shekel
assessment. There is great power in the unity of a nation or people who strive
towards a common goal. When anyone joins in a constructive cause, the spiritual
merits of all the individuals become the merit of the whole, as it were, so
that not only their funds, but also their personal attainment come together to
assist one another.
A solitary human being can
seldom survive Divine scrutiny; what person is free of sins and shortcomings?
But when a nation become one, it ascends to higher plane of spirituality,
because all its individual members merge their spiritual virtues with one
another. As a result, the national collective is judge far more compassionately.
This is why it is so important to pray with a quorum, rather than individually.
The word terumoh, or portion,
is mention three times in the next five verses, this describe three separate
gifts of silver. Two of which were required gifts of half a Shekel each, and
the third was a voluntary contribution of any amount of silver. The two
compulsory gifts were an annual contribution to cover the cost of all communal Temple offering, and a
one-time contribution of silver for the sockets upon which the walls of the
Tabernacle rested. The voluntary gift was apart of the general contributions
for the construction of the Tabernacle and its utensils.
The compulsory gifts are
further illustrations of the theme discussed above: Everyone, whatever his
social or economic status, had to be an equal partner in the Tabernacle that
existed to bring together EL YAHVEH and His people, and in the offering that
represented the nation in achieving that paramount goal.
The annual half shekel gift
paid for the communal offering were collected during the month of Adar the
twelve month, so that the funds would be ready in time for the month of Nissan,
New year. Consequently, this chapter was read in synagogues the Sabbath before
Rosh Chodesh Adar, a practice that is still followed in commemoration of the
Commandment to participate in the offering.
Exo
30:11 And יהוה spoke to
Mosheh, saying, -
Exo 30:12 “When you take the census of the children of Yisra’ĕl, to register them,
then each one shall give an atonement for his life to יהוה , when you register them, so that there is no plague
among them when you register them. – When counting them” This phrase is repeated twice in this verse, to
teach that this manner of counting was decreed not only for Moses’ census, but
that it is forbidden for all time to make a head count of the Hebrew people.
King David erred in this
regard, thinking that this passage applied only to Moses. David violates this
prohibition by ordering a regular head-count, a sin for which the nation was
struck by a plague and for which He repented when he realize his error.
Another example of David sin
is that it is inconceivable that so great a scholar could have error in the
interpretation of Scripture.
Even though David did used
coins or some other means to avoid a direct count, but he was still punish,
because he did not have a compelling reason to conduct a census.
Exo 30:13 “Everyone among those who are
registered is to give this: half a sheqel according to the sheqel of the
set-apart place, twenty gĕrahs being a sheqel. The half-sheqel is the
contribution to יהוה . – The half shekel was a
specific weight of silver that Torah institute as the standard coinage. The
verse goes on to specify that a full shekel consisted of twenty gerah.
As long as we are in the flesh
we are only at half our potential, for we are both Spirit and flesh. The half
shekel is for the atoning of our flesh, which needs constant restriction.
Exo 30:14 “Everyone passing over to be
registered, from twenty years old and above, gives a contribution to יהוה . – Twenty is the
number of redemption; everyone over the age of redemption is required to pay
this half shekel. Under the age of twenty they would be covered under the
parent’s atonement.
Exo 30:15 “The rich does not give more and the
poor does not give less than half a sheqel, when you give a contribution to יהוה , to make atonement for yourselves. – Regardless of one financial position the price is the same. ½ sheckel
weight of silver is about $11.00 canadian. A sheckel is $ 0.25 and ½ shekel is
about $ 0.13 Canadian.
Exo 30:16 “And you shall take the silver for the atonement from the children of
Yisra’ĕl, and give it for the service of the Tent of Meeting. And it shall be
to the children of Yisra’ĕl for a remembrance before יהוה , to make atonement for yourselves.” - This money was for the sole
purpose of the service of the Tabernacle. This was not to be use for the
support of the Priesthood.
In the next four verses the
Torah now switch its focus to another Altar in the Tabernacle, called the Laver.
In the Outer Court
stood a large, copper untensil filled with water from which the Kohanim were
required to wash their hands and feet before performing the service in the
Tabernacle. It was like a cauldron or basin that was set upon a copper base,
and it had two spouts at the bottom, through which the water would flow.
The purpose of this washing
was for sanctity, rather than cleanliness; it is for washing for
sanctification. The hand and feet represent our work and our walk, and by
sanctifying them, the servant of EL YAHVEH symbolize their total devotion to
the service they are about to perform.
The Laver is not mentioned
with the other Altar in the last chapter. The other Altar causes the Divine
Presence to rest on the Tabernacle, whereas the Laval served to prepare the people or the
Kohanim to approached a Holy Elohim.
Exo 30:17 And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,
Exo 30:18 “And you shall make a basin of bronze, with its stand also of bronze, for
washing. And you shall put it between the Tent of Meeting and the altar, and
shall put water in it. – In this verse, orders are given for the making of a
Laver, a large brass vessel, that would contain a good quantity of water, which
was to be set before the entrance to the Holy Place .
The foot of brass, it
is supposed, was to make redemption the basses as to receive the water, which
was let into it out of the laver by spouts or cocks. They then had a laver for
the priests only to wash in, but to us now there is a fountain open for Judah
and Jerusalem to wash in (Zec. 13:1), an inexhaustible fountain of living
water, so that it is our own fault if we remain in our pollution. This
altar has the same spiritual meaning as the Red Sea was to the children of
Yisrael, and the Blood and Water that flow from Messiyah Side. This is the
altar of inspection or deliverance, where we examine ourselves of any spiritual
defect and wash it away by the Living Water that flows from Messiyah side, as
Pharaoh arms was destroyed by the Red Sea .
Exo 30:19
“And Aharon and his sons shall wash from it their hands
and their feet. – In this verse we see that the hand their work and the feet their walk
must be examined and was away any spiritual contamination. Sin makes the
believer unclean, there are sin unto death and sin not unto death. Sin not unto
death, is like touching a dead thing, or even sexual activity, we must wash our
body and be unclean untill evening. This symbolizes the idea that the proper
service of YAHVEH requires that all of man’s faculties be directed towards the
same goal.
Sine EL YAHVEH is a Holy
Elohim, we cannot approach HIM anyway. If we were going to see the queen would
we wear an unclean set of cloth in her presence? Then why when we pray to EL
YAHVEH, we do not clean or repent from our sins before we approached HIM.
Exo 30:20 “When they go into the Tent of Meeting, or when they come near the altar to
attend, to burn an offering made by fire to יהוה , they wash with water, lest they die. – The Tabernacle is a pattern of the Heavenly Kingdom .
EL YAHVEH resides in the Holy of Holies. It is those of us who place the blood
over the doorpost, a type and shadow of the Brazen Altar, who must constantly exercise
this Altar. By going to the Laver we are repenting of our sins or if we touch
any dead things we can go and make our self ritually clean.
The Torah does not say
directly that transgressors will die, because that would imply that the death
would take place immediately. This is not the case, however, because a Heavenly
death penalty is weighed in YAHVEH’S scale and it is He Who decides whether and
when to impose it or defer it (Grace.)
Exo 30:21 “And they shall wash their hands and their feet, lest they die. And it shall
be a law forever to them, to him and his seed throughout their generations.” – This is not a matter of been physically dirty, this is a ritually
position. This same altar is also indicated by the Red Sea
and the Blood and Water that flows from the side of El Yahushua (Jesus Christ).
When Yahushua said to Peter if you do not let me wash your feet, you cannot be
My disciple, Yahushua was exercising this altar. The death of Pharaoh Army in
the Red Sea was also an exercise of this very
same altar.
Moses was commanded to
compound a mixture of oil and spices that would be used to anoint and
consecrate all the vessels of the Tabernacle, and also Aaron and his sons, for
their tasks. In the future the same oil would be used to anoint kings of the
Davidic dynasty and the Kohanim Gedolim, until the waning of the First Temple .
The manufacture of the
anointment oil was unique among the needs of the Tabernacle, in that it had to
be made by Moses. Since its function was to achieve a high degree of dedication
to EL YAHVEH’S Will, it is understandable that the oil should be made by Moses,
the instrument of that Will.
It is forbidden to manufacture
an exact duplicate of this oil or to use either the original or a copy for
one’s own purpose, for it would be a desecration of YAHVEH’S Will, as if this
formulation could be used with impunity by anyone.
Exo 30:22 And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying,
Exo 30:23 “And take for yourself choice spices,
five hundred sheqels of liquid
myrrh, and half as much – two hundred and fifty – of sweet-smelling cinnamon,
and two hundred and fifty of sweet-smelling cane, - “Now you take for yourself” All of the artifacts of the Tabernacle,
only regarding the anointment oil did EL YAHVEH tell Moses, “Now you.” This
indicates that, although spices are listed among those that were to be
contributed for the Tabernacle, Moses himself was to contribute and mix those
that were needed for the anointment oil.
The total amount of fragrant
cinnamon was five hundred shekel weights, but it was to be weighted in two
separated portions, each of which was to be 250 shekels. The next items in this
verse, however, were 250 in total. It was a Scriptural decree that only this
spice be weighed this way. The spices were cinnamon, myrrh, sweet cane, and
cassia.
Exo 30:24 and five hundred of cassia, according to the sheqel of the set-apart place,
and a hin of olive oil. A hin is at minimum just under a gallon. - According to some opinions,
it is almost a gallon.
Exo 30:25 “And you shall make from these a set-apart anointing oil, a compound,
blended, the work of a perfumer. It is a set-apart anointing oil. – “Oil of sacred anointment”
The word wdq is used to denote two concepts: Separation.
Therefore EL YAHVEH is called Holy, Holy, Holy, in the sense that He is so
superior to all else that He is totally separated from them.
This concept is symbolized by
the olive oil, for it does not mix with other liquid. At the other end of the
Spectrum, a prostitute is called a kedeishah because she is removed from the
concept of human decency.
The term wdq also implies the
positive idea of total devotion to a higher purpose. The anointment process
combined both of these ideas.
Exo 30:26 “And with it you shall
anoint the Tent of Meeting and the Ark of the Witness, - With this
oil YAH’s tent and all the furniture of it were to be anointed; it was to be
used also in the consecration of the priests.
Exo 30:27 and the table and all its utensils, and the lampstand and its utensils, and
the altar of incense, - The same
anpinting, the same purpose of the Altar in the Outercourt was the same
anointing it was for the Holy Place and the Holies of Holy. Regardless of the
position that one practice in the ministry, the purpose was to bring people to
full maturity, to produce son for the Kingdom.
Exo 30:28 and the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the basin and
its stand. – The altar of burnt offering is the office of
the Evangelist who bring a person to Justification, initial salvation, the
Laver is the office of the Pastor, who counsel the new believer against any
evil tendency he or she might have brought with them from the world system, a
Pharaoh army followed the children of Yisrael and was destroyed in the Red sea,
this is the office of the Pastor.
Exo 30:29 “And you shall set them apart, and they shall be most set-apart. Whatever
touches them is to be set-apart. – The degree of
the vessels holiness is such that, whatever touches them becomes sanctified.
This means that if a sacred utensil is filled with a substance that would
normally be place in that vessel as part of the Tabernacle procedure, such as
oil or flour that were place in vessels used for the preparation of a meal
offering, the substance gets the status of holy. However, if an object were not
eligible for holiness, they would not become holy.
Exo 30:30 “And you shall anoint Aharon and his
sons, and set them apart, to serve as priests to Me. – The Fivefold Ministry was to
be seta part in every generation to serve as priest to EL YAHVEH, not to the
people. When we realize this then more respect will be given to EL YAHVEH
priesthood.
Exo 30:31 “And speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, saying, ‘This is a set-apart
anointing oil to Me throughout your generations. – “For Me oil of sacred anointment” Rather than saying that the oil
would be in the custody of the kohanim, the verse stresses that the oil is YAHVEH’S,
because the oil is being preserved by HIM to anoint the King Messiyah, when He
arrives. The next two verses prohibit the use of the anointment oil on people
other than Kohanim and the King whose anointments is required by the Torah.
Moses’ oil will remain intact forever, so that no other oil need ever be made.
Verse 32-33 contains several
prohibitions and punishments otherwise called judgments. It is forbidden under
pain of kareis, or spiritual excision, for anyone to use Moses’ oil on himself
or on anyone else.
It is forbidden even to make
an exact replica of this formula; anyone who does so is liable to kareis. It is
permitted to use the same spices in different proportions than those given in
this Scripture.
Exo 30:32 ‘It shall not be poured on the flesh of a man, and make no other like it,
according to its composition. It is set-apart, it is set-apart to you. – It was to be continued throughout their
generations. The tradition of the Yisraelites is that this very oil which
was prepared by Moses himself lasted till near the captivity. It was repeated
according to the prescription here, for Solomon was anointed with it (2 Ki.
1:39), and some other of the kings; and all the high priests with such a
quantity of it that it ran down to the skirts of the garments; and we read of
the making up of this ointment (1 Chr. 9:30): yet all agree that in the second
temple there was none of this holy oil, which he supposes was owing to a notion
they had that it was not lawful to make it up.
Exo 30:33 ‘Whoever compounds any like
it, or whoever puts any of it on a stranger, shall be cut off from his people. - To show
the excellency of holiness, there was in the tabernacle that which was in the
highest degree grateful, both to the sight and to the smell. Messiyah’s Name is
said to be as ointment poured forth (Cant. 1:3), and the good name of
Yisrael better than precious ointment, Eccl. 7:1. 2. The incense which
was burned upon the golden altar was prepared of sweet spices likewise, though
not so rare and rich as those of which the anointing oil was compounded. This
was prepared once a year, a pound for each day of the year, and three pounds
over for the day of atonement. When it was used, it was to be beaten very
small: therefore it pleased ABBA YAHVEH to bruise the Redeemer when he offered
himself for a sacrifice of a sweet-smelling savour.
Verse 34-38 deals with
incense. The fragrance of the incense represented Yisrael’s responsibility and
desire to serve EL YAHVEH in a manner pleasing to Him. One of the spices listed
here, galbanum it has four aromas. Therefore, the incense expresses the idea
that the Hebrew people should be united in one, that everyone, every nation
might come and be a sweet smelling fragrance in the service of EL YAHVEH.
Exo 30:34 And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Take sweet spices, fragrant
gum and cinnamon and galbanam, and clear frankincense with these sweet spices,
all in equal amounts. - The incense which was burned upon the golden altar
was prepared of sweet spices likewise, though not so rare and rich as those of
which the anointing oil was compounded. This was prepared once a year, a pound
for each day of the year, and three pounds over for the day of atonement.
Exo 30:35 “Then you shall make of these an incense, a compound, work of a perfumer,
salted, clean, set-apart. – The perfumer is the same, as the Fivefold ministry should make from
all people group a community, a Hebrew people; salted by Torah, clean by the
Blood and the Water, set apart unto good works.
Exo 30:36 “And you shall beat some of it very fine, and put some of it before the
Witness in the Tent of Meeting where I meet with you, it is most set-apart to
you. – “The term beat very fine” alluded to the process
of refinement of the individual, a person in which none of ourselves is still
in us. They are the ones who must minister at this altar. In today’s church
this would be the choir. How many women who sing in the choir, sing while on
their monthly cycle.
Exo 30:37 “And the incense which you make, do not
make any for yourselves, according to its composition, it is set-apart to you
for יהוה . – That which is set apart for the service of EL YAHVEH must always be
set apart for Him only. Those who are
called to ministry and used their talents for the promotion of their worldy
talents will be cut off.
Exo 30:38 “Whoever makes any like it,
to smell it, he shall be cut off from his people.” – This fragrant must
be unique only to the Tabernacle, it should not be used for personal use.
Chapter 31
In this chapter verse 1-11 the
instruction for the construction of the Tabernacle has been given, EL YAHVEH
now designated Bezalel, to supervise the construction.
This scripture illustrate that
he had mastered the wide array pf skills needed to build the Tabernacle. In
designating him, EL YAHVEH said, I see, I have proclaimed that the skill of
Bezalel is sufficient for the task.
Exo 31:1 And יהוה spoke to
Mosheh, saying, -
Exo 31:2 “See, I have called by name Betsal’ĕl son of Uri, son of Ḥur, of the tribe
of Yehuḏah, - This principle is one of the most important principle lacking today.
No only did EL YAHVEH called him by name, YAHVEH also specified his father and
father’s father just incase there were some misunderstanding. Betsalel means in
the shadow or protection of ABBA YAHVEH “God.”
The Spirit of Wisdom,
Understanding and Knowledge
Exo 31:3 and I have filled him with the Spirit of Elohim in wisdom, and in
understanding, and in knowledge, and in all work, - Bezalel had build his
Menorah, therefore he is now qualified to help others build theirs.
Exo 31:4 to make designs for work in gold, and in silver, and in bronze, - The Spirit of Wisdom is
required to implement knowledge, while knowledge is a result of understanding.
The temperature used to melt gold is not the same for silver, nor is it for
bronze. The harder the metal the more heat is required to purify it.
The craftsman cannot use the
same amount of heat to purify bronze to purify silver, it is too much. So it is
for individual. According to the application require different amount of heat,
or different amount of application. The three metals describe in this verse
depict the Three level of maturity. Outcourt, bronze; Holy Place, silver and
Holy of Holies, Gold. Remember that these metal are visible words.
Exo 31:5 and in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, and to work in all
work. – As human some of us are spiritual wood and
stone, the knowledge of the different material must be known before wisdom can
be applied to it, in order to mold it or carve it into the desire shape EL
YAHVEH require from us. Understanding implies little more than knowledge, one
might have knowledge but not the understand of that knowledge.
Exo 31:6 “And I, look I have appointed with him Oholiaḇ son of Aḥisamaḵ, of the
tribe of Dan. And I have put wisdom in the hearts of everyone who is wise-hearted,
and they shall make all that I have commanded you: - When Messiyah was on earth,
He send out His disciples two by two, in this case we see Bezalel being given a
co-worker, of the same caliber. Can two walk together unless they agree?
The priesthood, the Fivefold
ministry, is not the same as those who construct the Tabernacle. Some of us are
the head some the feet. Regardless of what position we are, what is required of
us is total obedience. As the Children of Yisrael is one (Echad), there are many
members of that body. It is those who are the best at what they do, who are
supposed to help build the Tabernacle; however, too often it is those who have
not build their Menorah that become leaders. Oholiab means the tent of the
Father.
Exo 31:7 the Tent of Meeting, and the ark of the Witness and the lid of atonement
that is on it, and all the utensils of the Tent, - The Tabernacle, the
Ark of the covenant and the Mercy seat all have the same spiritual goal, even
though each represent one aspect salvation, however they all point to the
perfect man. That ultimate perfect man is Messiyah Yahushua. The purpose of
Creation is for ABBA YAHVEH to create perfect sons. The purpose of the
Tabernacle is to outline the image of the perfect son.
Exo 31:8 and the table and its utensils, and the clean gold lampstand “Menorah”with
all its utensils, and the altar of incense, - Each Altar
represent a draw near point to ABBA YAHVEH, and every item in the Tabernacle is
to assist humanity to draw near to ABBA YAHVEH.
Exo 31:9 and the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the basin and
its stand, - The Altar of burnt offering is the Brazen Altar the Altar of Justification
and the Basin is the Laver, both of which is in the OuterCourt.
Exo 31:10 and the woven garments, and the set-apart garments for Aharon the priest
and the garments of his sons, for serving as priests, - The knitted vestments are
the large cloths that were used to covered the vessels of the Tabernacle while
it was being transported from place to place. These vestments were singled out
because only one man in every generation was permitted to wear them.
Exo 31:11 and the anointing oil and sweet incense for the Set-apart Place . According to all that I
have commanded you, they are to do. – The anointing oil
or the oil of anointing, like the word anoint means to set aside to be given as
a gift, as the five fold ministry the Mighty Hand of ABBA YAHVEH, is anointed
to minister to the people. When some one is anointed to ministry meaning they
have reach spiritual maturity and they are set aside for a specifice purpose.
Exo 31:12 And יהוה spoke to Mosheh, saying, -
Although the commandment of
the Sabbath was part of the Ten Commandments, it is repeated here to caution
the nation that the construction of the Sanctuary does not override the
Sabbath; Yisrael must observed the Sabbath even while it is fashioning the
resting place of EL YAHVEH’S Glory. This emphatically contradicts those who
claim that the law of the Sabbath must be pliable enough to be relaxed for
valid spiritual consideration.
The Sabbath is a principle of
faith and it is equivalent to all of the commandments, for through the
commandments of the Sabbath one expresses his belief in the creation of the
world and a perfect man, that was, that is, that will be created on the sixth
day.
Exo 31:13 “And you, speak to the children of Yisra’ĕl, saying, ‘My Sabbaths you are to
guard, by all means, for it is a sign1 between ME and you throughout
your generations, to know that I, יהוה , am setting you apart. Footnote: 1The only sign of יהוה setting us apart, the only sign of the
everlasting covenant, is His Sabbaths, one of them being the seventh day
Sabbath. This is repeated in Ezek. 20:12 & 20. – “However” In the plain sense, the word however means to say that
despite its importance, the work on the Tabernacle may not be done on the
Sabbath. In this verse, it is a limitation on the rule of Sabbath observance,
indicating that there are times when it is require that labor be performed.
Such instances are to save
lives and to perform a circumcision on the eight-day after birth. My Sabbath,
in the plural refers to all of the Sabbath of the year. It is a sign between EL
YAHVEH and us in the positive sense that all Yisrael should honor the Sabbath,
and you shall observe the Sabbath and those who desecrate it are liable to
death, in the negative sense of not desecrating it.
Exo 31:14 ‘And you shall guard the Sabbath, for it is set-apart to you. Everyone who
profanes it shall certainly be put to death, for whoever does work on it, that
being shall be cut off from among his people. - “Shall be put to death” There
are two mutually exclusive penalties. One who violates the Sabbath despite a
warning from witnesses that he is committing a capital offense is liable to the
death penalty imposed by the court. But one who does so intentionally, without
being warned or witnessed, is punished by EL YAHVEH with kareis, his souls is
cut off from the nation.
Exo 31:15 ‘Six days work is done, and on the
seventh is a Sabbath of rest, set-apart to יהוה . Everyone doing work on the Sabbath day shall
certainly be put to death. - “A day of complete
rest” it is not enough to refrain from prohibited activity. One must rest
completely, so that he will be free for sacred activities in honor of His
Creator. It is because the Sabbath is sacred to EL YAHVEH that one who
desecrates it is worthy of the death penalty.
Exo 31:16 ‘And the children of Yisra’ĕl shall guard the Sabbath, to observe the
Sabbath throughout their generations as an everlasting covenant. – The term guard, means more
than just stand guard around. It is to remember and apply it. It is those who
keep the Sabbath by faith, are the ones who will enter into His Rest.
Exo 31:17 ‘Between Me and the children of Yisra’ĕl it is a sign forever. For in six
days יהוה made the Heavens and the earth, and on the
seventh day He rested and was refreshed.’ - It is a sign between the Bride
groom and the Bride, for in six day she prepared herself for the Bride Groom so
she may enter into His rest. The word refreshed also means a wedding feast.
When a believer keep the
Sabbath in the natural it induce us spiritually to enter into His rest, His
fullness, as Hebrew 4:1 Therefore,
let us be terrified of the possibility that, even though the promise of
entering his rest remains, any one of you might be judged to have fallen short
of it; 2 for as the Good “Besorah”News had been proclaimed to us, just as it
was to them of old. But the message they heard didn't do them any good, because
those who heard it did not combine it with faith. 3 For it is we who have faith
in the Sabbath who enter the rest. It is just as EL YAHVEH said, "And in
my anger, I swore that they would not enter my rest." He swore this even
though his works have been in existence since the founding of the universe. 4
For there is a place where it is said, concerning the seventh day, "And YAHVEH
rested on the seventh day from all his works."

Exo 31:18 And when He had ended speaking with him on Mount Sinai ,
He gave Mosheh two tablets of the Witness, tablets of stone, written with the
finger of Elohim. – Having completed
the instruction regarding the Tabernacle and the Priesthood, the Torah goes
back to the narrative of the giving of the Law at Mount
Sinai .
If the Children of Yisrael had
accepted EL YAHVEH’S testing at Mount Sinai ,
had they pass the test? The whole entire nation would have been a massive
portable Tabernacle. That was EL YAHVEH plan A, now plan B is being set in
motion. The construction of a portable sanctuary, a constant reminded of Mount Sinai . As Hebrew 4:1 Therefore, let us be terrified of the
possibility that, even though the promise of entering his rest remains, any one
of you might be judged to have fallen short of it; 2 for as the Shechinah had
been proclaimed to them at Mout Sinai. But the sign that they saw didn't do
them any good, because those who saw it did not combine it with faith. 3 For it
is we who have faith in the sign who enter the rest. It is just as EL YAHVEH
said, "And in my anger, I swore that they would not get to come up the
mountain." He swore this even though his works have been in existence
since the founding of the universe."
The Law was suppose to have been written on the people heart at Mount
Sinai, now EL YAHVEH have to write it on tablets of stone with the Word “Thou
Shall” instead of “If you love me.”
If the law were written on the people heart at Mount
Sinai , they would not have committed the sin of the Golden calf.
The commandment to build the Tabernacle was EL YAHVEH plan B, it was given to
Moses during the frothy days on the mountain, this was delayed because of the
sin of the people.
In EL YAHVEH original plans, there would have been no need for a
Tabernacle, for every one of the Children of Yisrael was to have the experience
of a Kohen, they would have been worthy of building his own altar, and being a
resting place for the Divine Presence.
No longer would it be a nation of individual priest and Tabernacle. From
that point on, Yisrael needed a central Tabernacle toward which it would direct
its aspirations, and a holy, priestly family that would be dedicated to EL
YAHVEH’S sacrifice service.
Thought the frothy days that Moses was on the Mount of Sinai, EL YAHVEH
helps Moses to complete his Menorah. Moses exercises the Spirit of
Understanding and the Spirit of Knowledge. It is impossible for any human being
to absorb Yah’s Wisdom without the Spirit of Wisdom to help us. Moses earns
this Divine Gift by means of his effort. The same is true for every student of
the Torah. It is up to us to try to the limit of our ability; then the Spirit
of Understanding will come alongside of us and write the Torah on our Heart.
Jeremiah 31:33; Hebrew 8:10"'For this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Isra'el
after those days,' says EL YAHVEH: 'I will put my Torah in their minds and
write it on their hearts; I will be their Elohim, and they will be my people.
The two tablets were identical in size, five commandments on the first
tablets speaks of Man’s relationship with EL YAHVEH, while the five commandment
on the second tablets refers to Man’s relationship to his fellow human beings.
By indicating that the two tablets were equally important; the Torah
does not recognize the primacy of ritual law over social law and vice versa.
Both are necessary parts of the Divine scheme.
The Ten Commandment were inscribe on two Tablets instead of one was
because they testified that EL YAHVEH rested His presence upon Yisrael, and the
testimony must be rendered by two witness. The two Tablets also allude to their
dual nature, a two edged sword. The stone from the earth means that the Law is
not written on the heart of man, but that man’s heart was like a heart of
stone.
2Co 3:2 You're our letter of recommendation written
in our hearts that everyone knows and reads. 3
It's clear that you are Messiyah's letter, written as a result of our
ministry. You are a letter written not with ink but with the Spirit of the
living EL, a letter written not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human
hearts. 4 Messiyah gives us confidence
about you in YAH’S presence.
Chapter 32
If the sin of the Golden Calf
“Eigel” was one of mass idol worship, as a cursory reading of the verses seems
to indicate, the entire affaire is incomprehensible, both from the standpoint
of Aaron, who made it and some of the Yisrael who demanded and worship it.
What, then, was the reason for
this outrageous act? It began with an error of facts and mushroomed into a
grievous misunderstanding of Yisrael’s relationship with EL YAHVEH. The people
thaught that Moses was dead, and they had been left leaderless, without their
intermediary between themselves and YAHVEH. They thought that just as they had
address YAHVEH through Moses when they needed salvation at the sea or when they
had no water, and just as Moses had led them to Sinai and direct them in
battle, so too they needed some tangible presence to take the place of Moses.
This was not a denial of EL YAHVEH by all the people; it was an erroneous
belief that a Moses was needed to represent them before EL YAHVEH and convey
His teachings and beneficence to them.
This is usually the case with
children or immature believers. This is why Aaron acquiesced to them though he
knew they were wrong. Since their error did not led or involve idolatry, he
felt that it would be best for him to appear to yield until he could wean them
from their mistake. Too often parent of rambunctious kids yield to the desire
of their rowdy children, just to get them to be quite. Aaron was in that
position; he feared the voice of the people.
It is not everyone regardless
of how mature they are can stand the role of leadership, in particular when
they are been criticize.
Exo 32:1 And when the
people saw that Mosheh was so long in coming down from the mountain, the people
gathered together to Aharon, and said to him, “Arise, make us mighty ones who
go before us. For this Mosheh, the man who brought us up out of the land of Mitsrayim , we do not know what has
become of him.” – ‘Moses was delayed’ The
catastrophe of the Golden Calf was precipitated by a tragic error. Moses went
up to Mount Sinai for frothy days and frothy
night, when he delayed, Satan seized the opportunity and creates an illusion of
confusion. Satan knew what was taken place in the Heavenly realm, and true to
form, he creates a substitute and alternative to EL YAHVEH Plans.
Just like Mount Sinai Satan created a spirit of
fear in the people, those who are spiritual children will be led by fear instead
of being led by faith. They saw with their natural eyes and not with the eyes
of the spirit of Understanding. And the spirit of YAHVEH shall rest upon him,
the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the
spirit of knowledge and of the fear of YAHVEH; 3 And shall make him of quick understanding in
the fear of YAHVEH: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes,
neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:
The Children made judgment by what they saw and what they hear. One can
imagine Satan going around speaking into the ear of all the spiritual children
with big mouth saying where is Moses, he must be dead. Like a broken record
they spewed out what they are thinking.
Exo 32:2 And Aharon said to them, “Take off the golden
earrings which are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters,
and bring them to me.” - This verse brought to light the spiritual
deficiency of Aaron; even though he was the high Priest he was still vulnerable
to public opinion. Do we look at our actions and see what is the deficiency in
our character, or do we get angry when someone points out our flaws. We are
whom we are inside when we are squeeze. If we are orange, orange juice will
flow, if we are lemon, lemon juice will flow.
Exo 32:3 “And all the people took off the golden
earrings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aharon.
– There was a host of demons circulating among the people, encouraging
the people to give their gold to Aaron, just like today prosperity gospel
messages. Sow a seed and it will bear good fruits for the Kingdom brothers.
Exo 32:4 And he took this from their hand, and he formed it with an engraving tool,
and made a moulded calf. And they said, “This is your mighty one, O Yisra’ĕl,
that brought you out of the land
of Mitsrayim !”
– Aaron took it from their hands, the lure of money will cause even the
most well minded minister like Aaron to compromise or lose focus on the gold.
Then Aaron said here is your mighty one that brought you out of Egypt . He did
not have to say here is YAHVEH, but the implication, “who brought you out of Egypt ” refers
to the Golden Calf as YAHVEH.
Exo 32:5 And Aharon saw and built an altar before it.
And Aharon called out and said, “Tomorrow is a festival to יהוה .” – Aaron build a high place and set the Golden Calf on it. He lifted up
the golden calf before the people, and he said tomorrow is a festival to YAHVEH.
This sound to me like a full-scale idolatry.
Exo 32:6 And they rose early on the next day, and offered burnt offerings, and
brought peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up
to reval. – The term implies the three cardinal sins of idolatry, licentiousness,
and murder. In addition to their worshiping of the Golden Calf, they committed
immoral acts. This was the nidar of the tragic episode, the point at which
error turned to wantonness.
Exo 32:7 And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Go, get down! For your people
whom you brought out of the land
of Mitsrayim have
corrupted themselves. – When the people sinned they were Moses people. It is always the
leaders responsibility for the action of the people. Did Moses say to EL YAHVEH
I am here too long, let me go back to the people, or did he had too much faith
in Aaron and Hur? As leader must coup take place when the leader is away?
Exo 32:8 “They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have
made themselves a moulded calf, and have bowed themselves to it and slaughtered
to it, and said, ‘This is your mighty one, O Yisra’ĕl, who brought you out of
the land of Mitsrayim ! – Like most children when the
parent is away, all rules goes out the door, specially if big brother or big
sister is left in charge, who themselves are under developed.
Exo 32:9 And יהוה said to Mosheh, “I have seen this people, and
see, it is a stiff-necked people! – “It is a stiff-necked people “This is the familiar simile for
stubbornness, referring to one whose neck is too stiff to turn; consequently,
he will never look backwards once he has embarked on a particular course of
action.
Such a person will refuse to
listen to critics or admit to mistake. This was the trait that nearly doomed
Yisrael. Even after describing their sins in the starkest terms, YAHVEH did not
say that they should be destroyed; error can always be corrected if the will is
there. But if the people are too stubborn to listen to reason, what hope is there
for them?
Exo 32:10 “And now, let Me alone, that My wrath might burn against them and I consume
them and I make of you a great nation.” – here was a test
for Moses, after spending 40 days with Him on the Mountain, Moses was oozing
with glory. Moses those people who you brought out of Egypt are
sinful, let me destroy them and make you and your seed into a great nation.
What a tempting offer! The nation of Mosebites. I will be the King; my name
will be remembered forever.
Exo 32:11 But Mosheh pleaded with יהוה his Elohim, and said, “יהוה , why does Your wrath burn against Your people whom
You have brought out of the land
of Mitsrayim with great
power and with a strong hand? - But Moses pleaded with EL
YAHVEH. Notice what Moses said to EL YAHVEH, Your people who you brought out of
Egypt ,
after YEHWEH had said they were Moses people. Moses prayer was for EL YAHVEH to
find some other way to deal with the sins of His people without annihilation.
The people were His, and if
they were to disappear, the lose would be His, by taking them out of Egypt ,
He had designated them as the means to make His Sovereignty known to the world.
EL YAHVEH had an oath to fulfill with the Patriarchs that was enough to save
them. Unlike Noah who did not pray for the people when he was told that YAHVEH
was going to destroy the people, and Abraham who only intercede if ten people
were found in Sodom, Moses stood up for every single man woman and child in the
camp.
Exo 32:12 “Why should the Mitsrites speak, and say, ‘For evil He brought them out to
kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth’?
Turn from the heat of Your wrath, and relent from this evil to Your people. – This would give a great
boost to the Evil one who is behind all these rebellion. See EL YAHVEH cannot
restore His kingdom. He failed with Adam and Eve, he failed with Noah, see, He
cannot event take a people out of my kingdom.
Exo 32:13 “Remember Aḇraham, Yitsḥaq, and
Yisra’ĕl, Your servants, to whom You swore by Yourself, and said to them, ‘I
increase your seed like the stars of the Heavens. And all this land that I have
spoken of I give to your seed, and they shall inherit it forever. – “Remember” The people
deserve to die for they violate Your Commandment, but think of Abraham who
endure ten tests for Your Sake. If they deserve to die, think of Isaac who
stretched out his neck on the Altar. If they deserve to die remember your
servant Jacob.
Exo 32:14 And יהוה relented from the evil which He said He would
do to His people. – EL YAHVEH relented from His intention to destroy the nation
immediately and replace them with Moses descendant, but this does not mean that
the sin of the Golden Calf is forgotten. To the contrary, those who worship it
as an idol were put to death, as Moses led the people to repentance. Moses went
back to Mount Sinai to pray on their behalf
continuously for forty days, and even after all that, the resideu of that sin
remain with us today.
If Noah and Abraham had stand up for the people in their
area of influence, would we have read about Noah and the flood and the
destruction of Sodom? The lesson to be learnt here is that those who call
themselves spiritual should make it an effort to be intermediate between ABBA
YAHVEH and the people.
Verse 15 – 19 describes how
Moses smashes the Tablets. The passage describes poignantly the conflict facing
Moses. On the one hand he held the Wedding Covenant that was drafted up by EL
YAHVEH that was the physical embodiment of the Word of YAHVEH. On the other
hand he encountered a people that had demonstrates itself unworthy of receiving
the Covenant. He resolves the situation by smashing the two Tablets in the
sight of the people. A sight that shock themed them into recognition of the
enormity of their sins.
Exo 32:15 And Mosheh turned and went down from the mountain, and in his hand were the
two tablets of the Witness, tablets written on both their sides, written on the
one and on the other. – The very manner in which the Tablets were inscribed was testimony to
their Divine origin. The latest in rock writing technology.
Exo 32:16 And the tablets were the work of Elohim, and the writing was the writing of
Elohim engraved on the tablets. – “Engraved” the Hebrew word for engraves can be pronounced as freedom,
as if the verse is saying that the Hebrew path to freedom is inscribed on the
tablets. This teaches that the only truly free person is one who engaged in the
study of the Torah. The only real freedom is to live as Elohim created man to
live. Otherwise, one is subject to his own passions, the mores of society, or
the despotism of dominant or fashionable culture.
Exo 32:17 And Yehoshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted and he said to
Mosheh, “A noise of battle in the camp! – Joshua,
Moses loyal servant did not leave the foot of Mount Sinai
during the entire forty day that Moses was away. It was not merely that he
chose to follow Moses dutifully wherever he went; the point was that Joseph was
committed.
The sound of celebration
around the camp “Eigel” was so loud that it was heard even at the foot of
Sinai. Joshua heard, but mistook it for a response to an attack of aggression.
Moses corrects the young student that it was clear from the sound that the
noise represented something else entirely.
It was a sound that was
disturbing to Moses, because it indicates that the people were enjoying and
celebrating the blasphemous and immoral behavior to which they had sunk as they
sung and gyrated around their new god.
Exo 32:18 But he said, “It is not
the sound of those who shout of might, nor is it the sound of those who cry out
in weakness, but the sound of singing that I hear.” - Moses used this to teach the future leader of Yisrael on how to detect
the people mood by the way they sound.
When Moses descended the mountain,
he was hoping the Children of Yisrael might have acknowledge their mistake in
building the Golden Calf, but when he arrived at the encampment, he saw for
himself that they had not. At that moment Moses realized that the Children of
Yisrael, in their present state, could not be the vessel to received that level
of Divine Light, so he broke them.
Exo 32:19 And it came to be, as soon as he came near the camp, that he saw the calf and
the dancing. And Mosheh’s displeasure burned, and he threw the tablets out of
his hands and broke them at the foot of the mountain. - It may seems astonishing that someone of Moses statue would
destroyed EL YAHVEH gift to humanity, no matter how justified it may seem. But
looking at it from a spiritual or even a moral point of view, the Two Tablets
was the Katuba, the wedding covenant to the people, Moses was in the role of a
matchmaker, the go-between between the Father of the Bridegroom and the bride to
be.
The match-make was returning
to the bride-to-be, and he sees her with another man, another god, the
match-maker responsibility is to destroy the covenant in the sight of the
unfaithful bride-to-be. Both Idolatry and adultery is one of the same. This
covenant that Moses brought back from the mountain was the criteria the
Bride-to-be needed to follow, as she prepare herself for the Bridegroom. Much
like us today, the Torah is the instruction for us to learn and follow, if we
want to be the invited to the marriage fast of the Lamb, as one of the five
virgins.
Verse 20 – 29, Moses had to
rid the nation of the sin and the idol before he could beseech EL YAHVEH to let
them regain the Tablets and the spiritual role they had forfeited. First he had
to purge the nation of the idol, then those who had committed the adultery
among the people.
Exo 32:20
And he took the calf which they had made, and burned it
in the fire, and ground it into powder, and scattered it on the face of the
water and made the children of Yisra’ĕl drink it. – Moses took the calf, which the bride-to-be had committed idolatry
with and destroy it. A man cannot marry a woman if the first husband is still
alive. By burning it into the fire Moses was in essence destroying the first
husband. Now they were made to drink the dust of their idolatry.
What is the test for adultery?
A woman, who is charge with such crime, is force to drink from a mixture of
dust from the earth mixed with water. If her belly swells she is guilty of the
crime, if her belly do not swell she is innocent. This is exactly what Moses
did, when he made them to drink of the water.
Exo 32:21 And Mosheh said to Aharon, “What did this people do to you that you have
brought so great a sin upon them?” - Moses now turn to
Aaron, appalled that Aaron could have brought such a calamity upon the people.
What possible influence or reason could the people have caused for you to lead
them down this road. Too often leaders led the people based on the popular
decision of the time, and not on doing the right thing that might not be based
on popularity.
When leadership led by what is popular, they are
satisfying their own ego, and the welfare of the people is not his first
concern. Aaron decision to create a golden calf was to appease the requirement
of the few loud mouth among the masses and not down the road of righteousness.
Exo 32:22 And Aharon said, “Do not let the displeasure of my master burn. You know
the people, that it is in evil. – Notices the reply
of Aaron “do not be angry with me” Aaron was more concern with people opinion
of him that to do what is right. This is a message to all potential leaders,
led by righteous, and not be opinion pole. Aaron did not experience the burning
bush spiritually; therefore he could not lead the people to that same mode of
righteousness.
Exo 32:23 “And they said to me, ‘Make us mighty ones who go before us. For this
Mosheh, the man who brought us out of the land of Mitsrayim ,
we do not know what has become of him.’ – This is a
prophetic illustration of a time when church leaders will say that Yahushua is
not coming back any time soon, let us create our own leader. In the Hebrew
community, it is not the general people who chose the leader, like in the
example of King Saul. It is EL YAHVEH who determines the leader as in the
example of King David.
Exo 32:24 “And I said to them, ‘Whoever has gold, let them take it off.’ And they gave
it to me, and I threw it into the fire, and this calf came out.” – Aaron like all leaders who led by opinion pole, never
take personal responsibility for their action. Notice what he said “he spoke to
the people and they gave the gold to him.” As people we often remember the last
thing we are told. Aaron told Moses that he threw it into the fire and as if by
magic this calf came out. If I remember Aaron fashioned the calf with his own
hands.
Exo 32:25 And Mosheh saw that the people were let loose, for Aharon had let them
loose, to their shame among their enemies. – Moses discerns
that the people restrain had being removed, the boundaries that distinguish
them as a holy people from the people of the world had being eradicate. The
people were led to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil by Aaron.
This is usually what religious leadership does, logic and reason dictates their
agenda.
Exo 32:26 And Mosheh stood in the entrance of the camp, and said, “Who is for יהוה ? Come to me.” And all the sons of Lĕwi gathered themselves to
him. – It was not all the people who
participate in this action. However, since Yisrael in one nation, the action of
anyone is the action of the whole community. Moses took the spiritual
initiative and stood at the entrance to the camp, maybe on a rock, and
declares, “ Who is for EL YAHVEH.” Every day good spiritual leader will ask for
those who are on YAHVEH side to step forward.
Exo 32:27 And he said to them, “Thus said יהוה Elohim of
Yisra’ĕl: ‘Each one put his sword on his side, pass over to and fro from gate
to gate in the camp, and each one slay his brother, and each one his friend,
and each one his relative. – Those who step forward, those who make the
change, those who Passover, will be given the choice to prove themselves. Take
up the sword of righteousness and used it. The first place we are to used it is
in our own home, among our own people. Those of us who choose to differentiate
ourselves further, those who clime further up the mountain, must separate
themselves from those who are idol worshiper.
This is a further step toward spiritual maturity. Are you
will to sever the relationship between your brother, your friend, and you
relatives for righteousness sake? How were suppose to know who to slay? It was
those who belly had swollen from drinking the water, the test of adultery.
Exo 32:28 And the sons of Lĕwi did according to the word of Mosheh. And about three
thousand men of the people fell that day. – The Sons of Levi
step forward and said we are will to accomplish this requirement. I do believe
that the Sons of Levi were not timid in slaying those among themselves who was
part of this idol worship.
In our spiritual journey, we will be asking to separate
ourselves from idol worshipers. This break must be total and permanent, as the
death of three thousand people indicates. The name Levi means a heart for EL
YAHVEH, or those who have a heart for Torah; they will not participate in idol
worship or adultery.
Exo 32:29 And Mosheh said, “You are ordained for יהוה today – since
each one has been against his son and his brother – so as to bring upon you a
blessing today. – It is those who
have a heart for EL YAHVEH that will be ordain or set apart for His Glory. Why
you may ask? They were the ones who were willing to stand up against the
idolatry of their brothers, and a blessing was granted to them.
Exo 32:30 And it came to be on the next day that Mosheh said to the people, “You, you
have sinned a great sin. And now I am going up to יהוה – if I might
atone for your sin. – All good leader, when they discovered unrighteousness,
they are to bring to an end such practices by dealing quickly and severally
with the perpetrator of such actions. His next task is to atone for the sins of
the people. It is unwise to go before EL YAHVEH if one is not willing to deal
with idolatry and adultery. Now that the leader of the Nation of Yisrael had
rid itself of the overt sinners, Moses could now go back to Mount
Sinai and pray for the forgiveness.
Exo 32:31 And Mosheh returned to יהוה and said, “Oh, these people have sinned a
great sin, and have made for themselves a mighty one of gold! – By stressing that the idol was made of gold, indicates
that one of the main reason for idol worship is wealth or gold. Even believers
who do not have sufficient spiritual development will tend to substitute gold
as a replacement for EL YAHVEH. The mentality that surrounds such teaching
should be eradicated from the body.
Moses did not attempt to minimize the actions of the
people, he admitted to their infidelity, a sign of true repentance, and that of
a good leader.
Exo 32:32 “And now, if You would forgive their sin, but if not, please blot me out of
Your book which You have. - Was Moses being
presumptuous? What does he mean by telling YEHWEH if He does not forgive the
people, He EL YAHVEH should blot out Moses from the Book of Life. All good
leaders knew that it is their responsibility to intercede for the people, even
if it is at the expense of his own salvation.
Exo 32:33 And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Whoever has sinned against
Me, I blot him out of My book. – Here is a very sobering taught, “Whoever has sinned against Me, I blot him
out of My book.”
Exo 32:34 “And now, go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you.
See, My Messenger goes before you. And in the day of My visitation I shall
visit their sin upon them. – Moses past the test, he refused to accept
himself as a replacement for Yisrael, and was willing to give up his position
in the Kingdom for Yisrael. Now EL YAHVEH was willing to let Moses continue as
leader of the people. Now go lead the people! What a reassuring statement for a
leader, who sacrifice himself for Yisrael.
“In the day that I make My account.” Mercifully, Elohim
consented not to punish the entire nation at that time, but He declared that
whenever they would sin in the future, they would suffer some of the punishment
that they should have received in retribution for the sin couldn’t be
completely erased, because it left an indelible stigma on the people. Therefore,
whenever sins are committed, they are deu in part to the spiritual resideu of
the Golden Calf. Sin does not take place in a vacuum; we are heirs of our
history.
Exo 32:35 And יהוה plagued the people because they made the calf,
which Aharon made. – This sound a lot like Deuteronomy 28:15 “But it shall come
to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of YAHVEH thy EL, to observe
to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that
all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee: 16 Cursed shalt
thou be in the city, and cursed
shalt thou be in the field.”
Chapter 33
The aftermath of the Golden Calf. Chapter 33 expanding on
the earlier commandment, that Moses was to lead the people to the land, EL YAHVEH
said that He would carry out His pledge to the Patriarchs and drive out the
Canaanite nations.
However, EL YAHVEH was still displeased with the nation,
for the reference to the oath implied that the people were still not worthy of
inheriting the land on their own merits. Despite Moses, pleas, the executions
of sinners by the Levites, and the plaque, the resideu of sin had only been
diminished, but not eliminated. Now the journey continues.
Exo 33:1 And יהוה said to Mosheh,
“Come, go up from here, you and the people whom you have brought out of the
land of Mitsrayim, to the land of which I swore to Aḇraham, to Yitsḥaq, and
to Yaʽaqoḇ, saying, ‘To your seed I give it. – The eternal call to all believers
is to come up closer. Moses, and all spiritual leader and their followers to
come up closer, those who you have taken out of Egypt . To a land, to the promise
land, to be the bride of Yahushua. The same land that was promise to Abraham,
is the same land promise to us today.
Exo 33:2 “And I shall send My Messenger(Angel) before you, and I shall drive out the
Kenaʽanite and the Amorite and the Ḥittite and the Perizzite and the Ḥiwwite
and the Yeḇusite. – The seven
nations to be driven out of Canaan , is
alluding to those who still inhabit the Kingdom, Lucifer and his followers.
They will not be driven out all at one, but little by little as we mature and
are prepared to accept the task associated with the position.
We must remember that the Land of Canaan
is symbolic of the Kingdom, this stories is about those who will be driven our
as the Children of Yisrael grow in numbers and inhabit the land, it is also
indicative of the spiritual kingdom. This Angel will be Michel who will finally
evict the inhabitance who has no right to be there.
There will come a time when the children of Yisrael will
live in all the land EL YAHVEH had promise to Abraham. If the Children of
Yisrael had come into spiritual maturity, they would have inhabited all the
land, even in the days when thy first came into the land. Yisrael have never
fully inhabit all the land promise by EL YAHVEH.
When Yisrael does inhabit all the land, will be a
prophetic indicator that the Kingdom
of Heavens has been
restore.
Exo 33:3 to a land flowing with milk and honey. For I do not go up in your midst
because you are a stiff-necked people, lest I consume you on the way. – This land
flowing with milk and honey is indicative of the potential of the land. Even
though such a promise had been made, the stiff-necked ness of the people will
always prevent the Presence of EL YAHVEH to be in the midst of the people.
Because of the nature of EL YAHVEH, His very presence will destroy all
unrighteous; the unrighteousness of the Children of Yisrael will be their own
undoing. Too often believer pray for the presence of YAHVEH to be upon them,
yet they do not prepare themselves for His arrival. Sabbath, Passover,
Pentecost, and the other Feast day, if they are not kept in the right way, the
Presence of YAHVEH will never arrive.
Exo 33:4 And when the people
heard this evil word, they mourned, and no one put on his ornaments. – When the people heard the opportunity that they have
squander, they mourned over their stupidity, so to speak. There is a scripture
in Revelation 7:17 “For the Lamb
which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto
living fountains of waters: and YAHVEH shall wipe away all tears from their
eyes. The part of scripture I would like to focus on is
why would Yahushua be wiping tears from the eyes of those who were standing in
before the Throne. It is those of us who have failed to achieve maturity, even
though every opportunity was given to them to do so.
Exo 33:5 And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Say to the children of
Yisra’ĕl, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. Should I go up in your midst for one
moment I shall consume you. And now, take off your ornaments, and I shall know
what to do to you. – We have already discussed the stiff-necked people, and
why EL YAHVEH will not come into there midst. Now we see the instruction that
the people were to remove their jewelry.
Jewelry is indicative of what the people have done on
their own. Like the Golden Calf which is a product of the jewelry of the
people. These ornament were the garment that had on them the blood of the
covenant, which signified their exalted status. The people realize that they
had squander numerous opportunity to draw nearer, to make themselves more
holier, as they journey through the Wilderness.
Religion is an example of these ornaments, used
exclusively for show. A person may dress up in a lot of jewelry yet on the
inside they are contaminated. So are religious activities, which show a form of
godliness yet denied the truth character of EL YAHVEH.
Exo 33:6 So the children of Yisra’ĕl took off their ornaments at Mount Ḥorĕḇ . – Taking off of these ornaments that
made them seems righteous, is apart of the sanctification process.
Verse 7 – 11 describes the event surrounding Moses moving
his tent. Since the people had fallen from their lofty spiritual perch and ELYAHVEH
had announced that His Presence would not reside among the then, Moses action
was prophetic. Moses left the camp and set up his tent in isolation from the
sinful camp.
Moses ten was known as the tent of meeting, the same
title that was given to the Tabernacle, and for the same reason. Like the
Tabernacle, Moses was still available to the Hebrew people, who sought the Word
of EL YAHVEH. The nations as a whole had been ostracized, as it were, but not
individually.
Exo 33:7 And Mosheh took his tent and pitched it outside the camp, far from the
camp, and called it the Tent of Meeting. And it came to be that everyone who
sought יהוה went out to the Tent of Meeting which was
outside the camp. – Whoever sought closeness to EL YAHVEH would have to go
out to Moses tent and consult him. This also means that they would have to
separate themselves from the rest of the people.
This verse
demonstrates that anyone who seeks to study Torah should be ready to go
into exile to find it.
Exo 33:8 And it came to be, whenever Mosheh went out to the Tent, that all the
people rose, and each man stood at his tent door and watched Mosheh until he
entered the Tent. -
Exo 33:9 And it came to be, when Mosheh entered the Tent, that the column of cloud
descended and stood at the door of the Tent, and He spoke with Mosheh. – This column of
Cloud was supposed to be over the entire camp, now it is only over the Tent of
Moses. Does the column of EL YAHVEH Glory ascended where we meet in worship?
Then we need to reconsider our spiritual life, are we a clean vessel for the
Shechaniah to reside permanent.
Exo 33:10 And all the people saw the column of
cloud standing at the Tent door, and all the people rose and bowed themselves,
each one at the door of his tent. – This is a
remarkable, the spiritual illustration EL YAHVEH uses to teach us a lesson.
There is nothing as compelling when we see someone else in the position we are
supposed to be in. If this is not a strong motivation factor what is?
Exo 33:11 Thus יהוה spoke to Mosheh face to face, as a man speaks
to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but his servant Yehoshua son of
Nun, a young man, did not leave the Tent. – Unlike the other
prophets Moses did not need any sort of intermediary, and he was full conscious
when EL YAHVEH spoke to him, like two friends conversing with each other. This
is the type of relationship YAHVEH is seeking with all of us. This is what
Revelation 3: 21 talk about. “To
him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also
overcame, and am set down with my Father in His throne. :22 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the
Spirit saith unto the churches.”
Exo 33:12 And Mosheh said to יהוה , “See, You are
saying to me, ‘Bring up this people.’ But You have not made known to me whom
You would send with me, though You have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have
also found favor in My eyes.’- I still do not
think Moses understand the Command. The General purpose of all leaders is to
lead the people to the promise land. Some however, will not make it; they will
die on the journey because of unbelief. But led all leaders must do. All
spiritual leaders must lead the people to the promise land; in order to lead
they must know the way. The question the people must ask their leader is where
they have met EL YAHVEH. When did they experience their Burning Bush
experience?
Moses ask the question, whom you are sending with him.
That question was not for Moses to ask. His job was to lead. Moses knew EL
YAHVEH by name and He also have found favor in YAH sight, that is the purpose
of every good leader to take the people to the same level of spirituality as
Moses display in this chapter.
Exo 33:13 “And now, please, if I have found
favor in Your eyes, please show me Your way, and let me know You, so that I
find favor in Your eyes. And consider that this nation is Your people. – Now since I have
found favor in Your sight, then there are a few things I have to ask. I need to
know you more, and I need to know how you do things. The written Torah is only
one aspect of the Kingdom. Yahushua walk in more of the Fullness of the Kingdom
than anyone else.
That is why Yahushua could say, it you see Me, you see
the Father. This is a very powerful statement. Moses was asking for the same
level of maturity Yahushua experience when He was on earth. It is possible for
everyone to achieve, if we belief in Yahushua. John 10:30 said “I and My Father
are one,” yet it was not everything that the Father knew that the son knew.
Exo 33:14
And He said, “My Presence does go, and I shall give you
rest.” – My Presence will go before you and I
will give you rest. If the presence of YAHVEH goes before us, it will lead us
into spiritual rest. It will help us to build our Menorah.
Exo 33:15 And he said to Him, “If Your Presence is not going, do not lead us up from
here. – Moses said to EL YAHVEH, if your
presence, if your essence does not go with us what is the purpose of we going
anywhere. In every sphere of life, if the Holy Spirit is not leading us, we
need to reconsider our purpose in life.
Exo 33:16 “For how then shall it be known that I have found favor in Your eyes, I and
Your people, except You go with us? Then we shall be distinguished, I and Your
people, from all the people who are upon the face of the earth. – How will the world knows that we are Your
people unless You go before us. Unless Your stamp of approval is seen on your
people what is the point.
Exo 33:17 And יהוה said to Mosheh,
“Even this word you have spoken I shall do, for you have found favor in My
eyes, and I know you by name. - יהוה reply to Moses
that He would fulfill Moses request, for he was a friend who He called by first
name. Being called by your first name symbolizes closeness, comradeship, and
solidarity. Every human was created to experience this type of relationship
with the Father. The goal of the evil-one is to prevent us from achieving this
spiritual echelon.
Exo 33:18 Then he said, “Please, show me Your esteem. – EL YAHVEH went
on to admonish Moses to continue to show his regard; his appreciate, his
respect, as all of us should.
Exo 33:19 And He said, “I shall cause all My goodness to pass before you, and I shall
proclaim the Name of יהוה before you. And I shall favor him whom I
favor, and shall have compassion on him whom I have compassion. - EL YAHVEH made a promise to Moses that He would cause
all good things to happen to Moses anywhere he goes. Anywhere Moses goes,
anything Moses attempt to do, anyone Moses comes into contact with, EL YAHVEH
Name will be glorify. What an awesome promise.
Even if we choose to walk in all of EL YAHVEH Ways , He might choose not to
show us favor in certain things. Job was perfect, yet he experience another
side of YAH’S dealings. YAHVEH will show favor even to people who are
undeserving.
EL YAHVEH saw a large, unlabeled storehouse, and he asked
whom it was for? He answered, it is reserved for those who did not have their
own merit; it was the treasury of Heavens favor.
Therefore YAHVEH was
illustrating to Moses what he had just told him: Even when there are no
merits on which a believer can draw, they can still pray for YAHVEH’S mercy.
Exo 33:20 But He said, “You are unable to see My face, for no man does see Me and
live. -
Did the 70 elders who eat with YAH saw Him, or, is the word Face have a
difference meaning? Lets explore this for a minute! In English face means:
Countenance, expression. In the Hebrew language face is never defined in the
singular sense; the word in Hebrew is always faces. From this understanding,
favor could also means that Moses was not allowed to see the difference
countenance of EL YAHVEH. It is like a judge saying to his children, your do
not want to see me in the role of sentencing someone to death. Or a policeman
saying to his wife, you do not want to see me when I have to shoot someone.
As humans we carry difference faces at different times,
since we are created in the image of Elohm, we are showing His nature. No one
can see the different Faces of EL YAHVEH and live, Moses saw the compassionate
side and that is ok.
Exo 33:21 And יהוה said, “See, there is a place with Me! And you
shall stand on the rock. –
There is indeed a place where we can all stand and be protected from the
Esteem, the Glory of EL YAHVEH and lived; that place is behind the Rock named
Yahushua (Jesus Christ). In the plain sense of the word, a human being can no
more survive a direct confrontation with the glory of YAH than a person’s
eyesight can remain intact if he stares at the sun for an extended period of
time without a sunglass. Our Heavenly Father sees us through the sunglasses of
the Blood of Yahushua. That is why He sits at the Right Hand of EL YAHVEH, the
rock of protection for us all.
Exo 33:22 “And it shall be, while My Esteem (Glory) passes by, that I shall put you in
the cleft of the rock and cover you with My hand while I pass by. – Anyone who is
still spiritually alive, one whose soul is not been contaminated by the
temptations of the body, cannot survive the sight of EL YAHVEH’S Glory.
Standing on top of the mountain, Moses asked to meet with
YAHVEH in deepest intimacy, but he was told that no human being can be with
ABBA YAAHVEH, “Panim el Panim” –
‘face to face’ and continue to live on Earth.
So to Moses, the beloved servant of ABBA YAHAVEH offers
an alternative. YAHVEH tells him, “V’ samticha b’nikrat hatzur” – I will put
you in the cleft of the rock “Missiyah”, and MY glory will pass by. This Rock
would fortify Moses.
One of the characteristic name of YAHVEH is Tzur, Rock, meaning that YAHVEH is
strong and enduring.
What ABBA YAHVEH was saying to Moses is, “I will put in the cleft of the Tzur,”
the rock formation of the mountain was only a physical manifestation of a
spiritual protype. I will put you in the midst of ME, inside ME, that is where
and how we will know each other, from the inside of the Inside. I know you will
know ME at the deepest depths of our Being.
Exo 33:23 “Then I shall take away My hand and you shall see My back, but My face shall
not be seen.” – If EL YAHVEH
takes away His Mighty Hand, the Fivefold ministry we will only see His back,
not His Different Countenance. EL YAHVEH say He speak to His friend face to
face. As believer we should strive to see EL YAHVEH grace to face and not His
back.
Chapter
34
At the end of Moses’ second forty-day period on Mount Sinai , EL YAHVEH agreed write a second Covenant for
the bride to be. This time, however the stone tablets was not to be the handy
work of YAHVEH: instead, Moses was command to carve out the stone cubes and
bring them to the mountain, whereupon EL YAHVEH would inscribe the commandment
on them.
This change was a reflection
of the low statue the Nation of Yisrael had fallen to. Instead of the
Commandment being written as ‘If you love Me’ ‘It is now written as thou shall
not’ far removed from the closeness that EL YAHVEH had required for the Bride
to be.
The first time, they were
completely amenable to YAH’S will. They had said we will do and we will obey,
meaning that they transformed themselves into a vessel to receive YAH’S Love.
Because they had reached an exalted spiritual state in which their soul clean
enough to receive in the physical sense the Covenant of Love, which was
fashioned by the hand of ELYAHVEH.
Now, however, despite their
repentance and Moses’ successful prayer, and the elimination of those who had
committed idolatry, they were no longer on the same level. They were now
commanded to do, to prove them self-trough obedience, instead of by love.
It would be for them to
perfect themselves with constant effort to lift themselves back to where they
had been, a task that would be completed when the Messiyah arrive and said if
you love Me keep My Commandment.
Exo 34:1 And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Cut two tablets of stone like
the first ones, and I shall write on these tablets the Words that were on the
first tablets which you broke. – The two stone tablets was the presentation, the word were the same.
When the first tablets was constructed it was done out of love. The fruit of
the Spirit is always will be love. In the second set of Tablets it was
fashioned by man hand, which symbolizes the law, obedience. The presentation is
the objective is now thought obedience. Like when man presents a law, it is not
trough love, but obedience. When we fall from grace it is obedience to the Law
that will restore us to the position we have fallen from.
Exo 34:2 “And be ready in the morning. Then
you shall come up in the morning to Mount Sinai ,
and present yourself to Me there on the top of the mountain. – Do believe this was the
Sabbath Day, the day of rest when we are to present our selves to EL YAHVEH.
Exo 34:3 “And let no man come up with you, and
let no man be seen in all the mountain, and let not even the flock or the herd
feed in front of that mountain. – Let no flesh be seen, let no attribute of the flesh be seen anywhere
on this mountain. Moses was still a man, but is attribute was not according to
the flesh. There were no religious activity, just total obedience, and a love
for EL YAHVEH that drive Moses forwards.
The flock of herds is symbolic
of the lower state of our spiritual growth. Even though they were apart of
Yisrael, not everyone was of the same spiritual level.
Exo 34:4 And he cut two tablets of stone like the first ones. Then Mosheh rose early
in the morning and went up Mount Sinai , as יהוה had commanded him, and he took two tablets of
stone in his hand. – The first set of commandments represent Yahushua HaMashiach, who came
in love and was broken for us, as the tablets was broken. He will return again,
this time He will be asking us did your keep my commandments. It is those who
love Him and keep His commandments that will rule and reign with Him according
to Rev 3:21.
Exo 34:5 And יהוה came down in the cloud and stood with him
there, and proclaimed the Name, יהוה . – His name is not God, His name is EL YAHVEH, the EL of all Elohim “the
King of all gods”.
Exo 34:6 And יהוה passed before
him and proclaimed, “יהוה , יהוה , an Ěl compassionate and showing favor, patient, and
great in kindness and truth, - EL YAHVEH passed before Moses as the loving and compassionate,
Elohim. That was the Face of Faces that Moses saw. That is the Face of Faces I
would like for all of us to experience in the fullness.
Exo 34:7 watching over kindness for thousands, forgiving crookedness and
transgression and sin, but by no means leaving unpunished1, visiting
the crookedness of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to
the third and the fourth generation.”
Footnote: 1This is confirmed in Num. 14:18, and in Jer. 30:11. – Notice what this Faces of Faces represents, kindness to thousands,
forgiving crookedness and transgression.
Exo 34:8 And Mosheh hurried and
bowed himself toward the earth, and did obeisance, - When Moses saw that particular
face of Faces, he like the rest of us should drop to our knees out of love and
respect for HIM.
Exo 34:9 and said, “If, now, I have found favor
in Your eyes, O יהוה , I
pray, let יהוה go on in our midst, even though we are a
stiff-necked people. And forgive our crookedness and our sin, and take us as
Your inheritance. – In the present of EL YAHVEH our entire shortcoming will come to
lightly. What a wonderful prayer Moses prayer. “let יהוה go on in our midst, even though we are a
stiff-necked people. And forgive our crookedness and our sin, and take us as
Your inheritance.” Oh my, oh my, oh my. My LORD
takes me into my inheritance.
Exo 34:10 And He said, “See, I am making a covenant. Before all your people I am
going to do wonders such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any
nation. And all the people among whom you are shall see the work of יהוה . For what I am doing with you is
awesome. – The
result of sin and disobedience require proof of obedience. Let me see if you
are going to be obedience to MY Word, since you are already saved.
See I am writing you a new set
of Covenant, where obedience is required. The result of this Covenant is to
make a distinction as to who are My people. If you see someone keeping the
covenant out of Love for ME then you will know that they are MY people. If they
keep it out of trying to please ME then they are not MY people.
For what I AM doing with you
is awesome. Our Heavenly Father have given us all the tools for us to reach
Spiritual Maturity, so we can be the Ark of the Covenant, we can rule and reign
with Yahushua. Isn’t that just absolutely Awesome.
As if witnessing the awesome
theophany at Mt. Sinai were not enough, יהוה
states clearly and firmly that this love-gift of the Commandments seals an
everlasting covenant between the Divine and humankind, represented by the
Yisraelites. By receiving the commandments, the principles, gave the Yisaelites
and their descendants a special responsibility of living, transmitting, and
being the stewards and guardians of יהוה
Will to all people.
Exo 34:11 “Guard what I command you today. See, I
am driving out from before you the Amorite and the Kenaʽanite and the Ḥittite
and the Perizzite and the Ḥiwwite and the Yeḇusite. – If we guard what is written
on the two tablets of stone, to pursue after it, to desire to have it written
on our hearts. I am driving out the Evil-one and his demon friends to make way
for you. The faster we reach maturity the faster HE will driven them out.
When Yahushua said behold I come quick, He was reference to the
frequency of our graduation, those who have prove themselves worthy to rule and
reign. There were originally seven nations that inhabit the land. These seven
nations can also be called seven sins.
The feast of unleavened bread starts the process of removing the old
established way of thinking and acting. YAHVEH ordered the children of Yisrael
to count 50 days from the day of unleavened bread, 7x7 = 49 days. According to
Jewish tradition, each week was to deal with one of the seven deadly sins,
through prayer and repentance. It also represents the seven Spirit that should
replace the seven sins:
§
Week 1 –
Adultery - Spirit of YAHVEH
§
Week 2 – Idolatry - Spirit
of Wisdom
§
Week 3 –
witchcraft - Spirit of Understanding
§
Week 4 – hatred - Spirit
of Counsel
§
Week 5 –
Sedition - Spirit of Might
§
Week 6 –
Envying - Spirit of Knowledge
§
Week 7 –
Drunkenness - Spirit of the Fear of YAHVEH
At the end of these
seven-weeks, all of the major sin that plague us as humans would be taken care
off, and the Holy Spirit will be free to dwell in us. Matthew 12:43 “When an unclean
spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds
none. 44 “Then he says, ‘I will
return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty,
swept, and put in order. 45 “Then he
goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they
enter and dwell there;
Despite
the promises and the Covenant, Yisrael would jeopardize its position as the
Bride-to-be if they were to sin and thereby break its part of the Covenant. In
the passage, EL YAHVEH tells Moses what sin sins are particularly threatening
and what commandments are especially propitious for safeguarding the
Bride-to-be spiritual purity.
He
begins by reiterating His promise to drive out the Canaanite nations, but
cautions the Bride-to-be that they must avoid the temptations that would
certainly awaited them as they get into the promise and.
Exo 34:12 “Guard yourself, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land
where you are going, lest it be a snare in your midst. - Guard yourself less we make a
covenant with those rebellious inhabitance of the land. Not because they are in
the land does not mean that they belong there. The land is for those who are
absolutely obedience to the constitution of the land. All rebellious citizens
must go.
Exo 34:13 “But break down their altars, and smash their pillars, and cut down their
Ashĕrim. – break down their sacred places, smash them to pieces, let them be seen
no more in your life, and in the land.
Exo 34:14 for you do not bow yourselves to another mighty one, for יהוה , whose Name is jealous, is a
jealous Ěl. – In order to come to maturity we must never submit to their practices,
their culture, their habits. One of the other Face of Faces is Jealous. This is
one of the faces we do not want to see or experience, for if we do we will die.
Exo 34:15 lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they whore
after their mighty ones, and slaughter to their mighty ones, and one of them
invites you and you eat of his slaughterings, - Do not accept their way, their holy day, their Christmas, their good
Friday, their holy communion, their marriages. If you are invited to one of
this celebration do not go!
Exo 34:16 and you take of his daughters for your sons, and his daughters whore after
their mighty ones, and make your sons whore after their mighty ones. – Do not take their daughters
for wives, or sons for your daughters. This is what unequally yokes means. Do
not marry a Christian if you are a Messiyanic.
Exo 34:17 “Do not make a moulded mighty one for yourselves. – No earthly object must be
made as a symbol, except for the Menorah and any object in the Tabernacle.
Exo 34:18 “Guard the Festival of Unleavened Bread. For seven days you eat unleavened
bread, as I commanded you, in the appointed time of the month of Aḇiḇ,
because in the month of Aḇiḇ you came out from Mitsrayim. – The Festival of Unleavened
bread is the time of the spiritual cycle when we get rid of those thing that
keep us back spiritually. The roots of the habits that cause us to get hot
under the collar. The things we got rid of last year, we should never go over
it again. Last year garbage is the fertilizer in which this year spiritual
growth is built on.
What we overcome last year
helps to form the fruit of the spirit for this year. As Passover will arrive
soon, we will experience another level of cleansing, and each year we repeated
the same process, until we complete the sixth day of Creation, when we will
become a perfect man.
There are things in our lives
we need to lose, losing our attitude is much like losing weight, and it
requires a radical change in our habits. By changing our habits for seven day,
by changing our eating habit, we replace the old leaven in our lives. By clean
our house in the natural, so is the same principle in the spiritual; our body
is the Temple
of the Holy Spirit. As we see in verse 11, the seven deadly sins, it was not
done all at once, but over a period of time.
Having exhorted the people to
avoid idolatry or anything that could lead them in that direction, the Torah
presents a list of commandments that can help prevent such disasters as the
Golden Calf. These commandments include the Pilgrimage festivals and other
observance event that proved that EL YAHVEH created and control the universe
and, consequently, that there is no need or justification for seeking
substitutes for Him or intermediaries to Him.
When King Jeroboam set up his
secessionist monarchy of the Ten Tribes after the death of Solomon, and wanted
to prevent the Hebrew people from traveling to Yerushalayim for the pilgrimage
festival where they would be reminded that the House of David was the
legitimate ruler, he set up a golden statues of calves in his kingdom and
establish his own festivals, the same as what Christians do today.
Exo 34:19 “Everyone opening the womb is Mine, and every male first-born among your
livestock, whether bull or sheep. – It is a great privilege to be a firstborn. El Yahushua Himself is
the Firstborn of the World, as it were; the firstborn originally performed the
sacrificial service and Jacob went to great lengths to procure the birthright
from Esau. Even though the Kohanim and Levites had replaced the firstborn in
the aftermath of the Golden Calf, it is a high honor to be a firstborn.
Exo 34:20 “But the first-born of a donkey you ransom with a lamb. And if you do not
ransom, then you shall break his neck. Every first-born of your sons you shall
ransom. And they shall not appear before Me empty-handed. – The first part of this verse
is straightforward; it speaks of our Lord Yahushua as the Ransom Lamb. This
command teaches us that when we come to the Festival we must bring an elevation
offering of appearance, in honor of the occasion.
Exo 34:21 Six days you work, but on the seventh
day you rest. – in ploughing time
and in harvest you rest. In it
simplest form, this verse single out two labor intensive actions, because they
are essential to one’s livelihood; when it is time for either, not a moment can
be wasted lest the weather or other conditions change and cause considerable
losses.
Nevertheless, the laws of the
Sabbath outweigh all considerations, for only EL YAHVEH gives prosperity.
Exo 34:22 “And perform the Festival of Weeks for yourself, of the first-fruits of
wheat harvest, and the Festival of Ingathering at the turn of the year. – The first offering of your wheat harvest. On Shavuos, know as the
Festival of Weeks, because the Torah gives its date only as seven weeks after
the second day of Pesach (Passover). The first offering from the new wheat crop
is offered.
Exo 34:23 “Three times in the year all your men are to appear before the Master, יהוה , the Elohim of Yisra’ĕl, - These three
Feast days are like midterm test, if we do not keep them then the fruit of our
spiritual will be small, since obedience to YAHVEH words, produce spiritual
fruits. The more we are obedient the larger the Spiritual fruit.
Remember the picture I showed you about the sixth
days of creation, notice the round circles on all the Menorahs, well those
represent the fruit of the Spirit.
Exo 34:24 for I dispossess nations before you,
and shall enlarge your borders, and let no one covet your land when you go up
to appear before יהוה your Elohim three times in the year. – As EL YAHVEH have driven out
our enemies, both natural and spiritual, our borders both natural and spiritual
will be enlarge. These feast days are like a midterm test, it is to enlarge our
standing, our relationship with the Creator.
It was necessary for have set
times of the year to come to Yerushalayim, because the people were spread out
across the Nations. This is a blessing; you will not have the unpleasant
experience of facing those who hate you, because EL YAHVEH will drive them
away.
This command teaches us that
of a great hidden miracles of the Torah. There is no other way that a vast
territory can be left undefended and virtually unpopulated without inviting the
aggression of alien predators. If you have a service business like mine your
customers will not suffer any harm while you are away.
Exo 34:25 “Do not offer the blood of My slaughtering with leaven, and do not let the
slaughtering of the Festival of the Passover remain until morning. – The prescribe sacrifice,
must not be done with the addition of manmade religious actions. Leaven is
silent influences, the tradition of man. Much likes today the egg and the shank
bone is added to Passover, these actions were not ordain by Torah.
None of the Passover Lamb must
not remain until daybreak. It must be burn totally on the fire before daybreak.
Exo 34:26 “Bring the first of the first-fruits of your land to the House of יהוה your Elohim. Do
not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.” – Again a repeat of the Commandment of the First Fruit, and the cooking
of the goat in its mothers milk. This does not mean we must not eat meat and
dairy at the same time. This teaching is the Leaven we were just discussing in
34:25.
Since the Hebrew people had
abrogated the covenant by crating the Golden Calf, The Bridegroom Father
instructed Moses to write a new covenant, the people had accept the proposal
when they place the Blood over the Doorpost in Egypt, now the terms of the
proposal were to be defined. The Bride-to-be had promise to be obedient to it.
“We will hear and we will do.” The Covenant layout the responsibility of the
Bridegroom and the responsibility of the Bride-to-be.
Exo 34:27 And יהוה said to Mosheh, “Write these Words, for
according to the mouth of these Words I have made a covenant with you and with
Yisra’ĕl. – The Torah is not the Law; it is the terms of
the Covenant for those of us who wishes to be the Bride-to-be. It is the
constitution of the Heavenly
Kingdom . It is incumbent
on all of us who believe to read, study, practice and have it written on our
heart, so when we get to Heavens, we will not be ashamed.
Exo 34:28 And he was there with יהוה forty days and forty nights. He did not eat
bread and he did not drink water. And He wrote on the tablets the Words of the
covenant, the Ten Words. – Rather than saying that Moses did not eat nor drink, this verse
specifies bread and water to imply that it was only physical food that Moses
did not enjoy. There was, however more significant nourishment that Moses did
absorb: the Word of EL YAHVEH, Yahushua (Jesus Christ). Mat 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread
alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of YAHVEH.
Exo 34:29
And it came to be, when Mosheh came down from Mount
Sinai, while the two tablets of the Witness were in Mosheh’s hand when he came
down from the mountain, that Mosheh did not know that the skin of his face
shone since he had spoken with Him. – The Radiance
resulted from being in the Presence of the Purest Light there is, The Shechinah
Glory. For forty day without eating, Moses had total control over His body.
When we as believer manifest this spiritual control we too will radiate as our
spiritual been begins to dominate. This is where Adam and Eve were before the
fall, and it is our true or ultimate destination.
Exo 34:30 And Aharon and all the children of Yisra’ĕl looked at Mosheh and saw the
skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him. – The people even Aaron they
feared to approach Moses. Come and see how devastating is the power of sin. The
appearance of the Glory of EL YAHVEH was like a consuming fire on the
mountaintop before the eyes of the children of Yisrael Exod 24:17, but they
neither feared nor trembled. But from the time when they made the Golden Calf,
they shivered and trembled even before the rays of the glory of Moses.
Exo 34:31 But Mosheh called out to them, and Aharon and all the rulers of the
congregation returned to him, and Mosheh spoke to them. – As EL YAHVEH called out to
Moses at the Burning Bush, he also called out to them come closer. Notice none
of them ask Moses where did you get that new look? I like it! Moses obviously
taught the leader first, and then in the next verse we see them teaching all
the people.
Exo 34:32 And afterward all the children of
Yisra’ĕl came near, and he commanded them all that יהוה had spoken with
him on Mount Sinai . – In
this verse we learn that when people
draw near to a mature believer such as Moses they would teach them what ABBA YAHVEH
have told them, he or she will become a Pot-of-Manna to those who draw near to
them.
Exo 34:33 And when Mosheh ended
speaking with them, he put a veil on his face. – This verse implies that Moses did speak to the people without the
veil. It also seems to imply that when He was not speaking to EL YAHVEH or the
People he would put the veil on his face.
Exo 34:34 But whenever Mosheh went
in before יהוה to speak with Him, he would remove the veil
until he came out. And when he came out he spoke to the children of Yisra’ĕl
what he had been commanded. – When
Moses went in before ABBA YAHVEH,
to speak with HIM in the Tabernacle of meeting, he put off the veil. Then there was no occasion for it, and, before
ABBA YAHVEH, every man does and must appear unveiled; for all things are naked and open before the
eyes of YAHVEH with whom we have to do, and it is folly for us to think
of concealing or disguising any thing.
Every veil must be
thrown aside when we come to present ourselves unto ABBA YAHVEH. This signified
also, as it is explained (2 Co. 3:16), that when any soul turns to ABBA YAHVEH
the veil shall be taken away, and with open face it may behold HIS glory. And
when we shall come before ABBA YAHVEH in heaven, to be there for ever speaking
with HIM, the veil shall not only be taken off from the divine glory, but from
our hearts and eyes, that we may see as we are seen, and know as we are known.
Exo 34:35 and the children of Yisra’ĕl would see the face of Mosheh, that the skin of
Mosheh’s face shone, and Mosheh would put the veil on his face again, until he
went in to speak with Him. – When Moses taught the Word of EL YAHVEH to the people, he did not
wear the mask, so that nothing would interpose between YAH’S teaching and the
people of Yisrael. Then, he would put the mask back on and wear it until YAHVEH
spoke to him again.

“First Kings” 18:1-9
We left the prophet
Elijah wrapt up in obscurity. It does not appear that either the increase of
the provision or the raising of the child had caused him to be taken notice of
at Zarephath, for then Ahab would have discovered him; he would rather do good
than be known to do it. But in this chapter his appearance was as public as
before his retirement was close; the days appointed for his concealment (which
was part of the judgment upon Yisrael) being finished, he is not commanded to
show himself to Ahab, and to expect rain upon the earth. Pursuant to this order
we have here.
1Ki
18:1 And after many days it came to be that the
word of יהוה came to Ěliyahu, in the third year, saying,
“Go, present yourself to Aḥaḇ, and I give rain on the earth.” - In these
verses we find, the sad state of YAHVEH people Yisrael at this time, upon two
accounts:
The spirit Jezebel
cut off the prophets of ABBA YAHVEH verse 4, slew them, in verse 13.
Being an idolater, she was a persecutor, and made Ahab one. Even in those bad
times, when the calves were worshipped and the temple at Jerusalem deserted, yet there were some good
people that feared YAHVEH and served HIM, and some good prophets that
instructed the people in the knowledge of HIM and assisted them in their
devotions.
The priests and the
Levites had all gone to Judah and Jerusalem (2 Chr. 11:13, 14), but, instead of
them, ABBA YAHVEH raised up these prophets, who read and expounded the law in
private meetings, or in the families that retained their integrity, for we read
not of any synagogues at this time; they had not the spirit of prophecy as
Elijah, nor did they offer sacrifice, or burn incense, but taught people to
live well, and keep close to the EL of Yisrael.
These Jezebel aimed
to extirpate, and put many of them to death, which was as much a public
calamity as a public iniquity, and threatened the utter ruin of religion’s poor
remains in Yisrael.
Those few that
escaped the sword were forced to abscond, and hide themselves in caves, where
they were buried alive and cut off, though not from life, yet from usefulness,
which is the end and comfort of life; and, when the prophets were persecuted
and driven into corners, no doubt their friends, those few good people that
were in the land, were treated in like manner. Yet, bad as things were.
ABBA YAHVEH, at
length, ordered Elijah to present himself to Ahab, because the time had now
come when he would send rain upon the
earth, or rather upon the land.
Above two years he had lain hid with the widow at Zarephath, after he had been
concealed one year by the brook Cherith; so that the third year of his
sojourning there, here spoken of, was the fourth of the famine, which lasted in
all three years and six months, as we find, Lu. 4:25; James 5:17.
Such was Elijah’s
zeal, no doubt, against the idolatry of Baal, and such his compassion to his
people, that he thought it long to be thus confined to a corner; yet he
appeared not till YAHVEH bade him: "Go
and show thyself to Ahab, for now thy hour has come, even the time to favour Yisrael.’’ It
bodes well to any people when ABBA YAHVEH calls his ministers out of their
corners, and bids them show themselves, a sign that he will give rain on the earth; at least we
may the better be content with the bread of affliction while our eyes see our teachers, Isa.
30:20, 21.
1Ki 18:2 Thereupon Ěliyahu went to present himself to Aḥaḇ. And the scarcity of
food in Shomeron was severe. – Bread and water were now scarce commodities, yet
Obadiah will find a competence of both for YAH’s prophets, to keep them alive
for service hereafter, though now they were laid aside. What happen in the
natural is very often have a spiritual canotation, there was a scarcity of both
physical and spiritual bread.
1Ki 18:3 And Aḥaḇ had called Oḇaḏyahu, who was over his house. Now Oḇaḏyahu
feared יהוה exceedingly. - There was one very good man, who was a great man at
court, Obadiah, who answered
his name a servant of ABBA YAHVEH,
one who feared YAHVEH and was faithful to HIM, and yet was steward of the
household to Ahab. Observe his character: He feared the YAHVEH greatly, was not only a good man, but
zealously and eminently good; his great place put a lustre upon his goodness,
and gave him great opportunities of doing good; and he feared YAHVEH from his youth verse 12, he began betimes to be
religious and had continued long. Early piety, it is to be hoped, will be
eminent piety; those that are good betimes are likely to be very good; he that
feared YAHVEH from his youth came to fear HIM greatly a an adult.
But it is strange to
find such an eminently good man governor of Ahab’s house, an office of great honor,
power, and trust. It was strange that so wicked a man as Ahab would prefer him
to it and continue him in it; certainly it was because he was a man of
celebrated honesty, industry, and ingenuity, and one in whom he could repose a
confidence, whose eyes he could trust as much as his own, as appears here,
verse 5. Joseph and Daniel were preferred because there were none so fit as
they for the places they were preferred to.
Those who profess
religion should study to recommend themselves to the esteem even of those that
are without by their integrity, fidelity, and application to business. It was
strange that so good a man as Obadiah would accept of preferment in a court so
addicted to idolatry and all manner of wickedness.
We may be sure it
was not made necessary to qualify him for preferment that he should be of the
king’s religion, that he should conform to the statues of Omri, or the law of the house of Ahab. Obadiah would
not have accepted the place if he could not have had it without bowing the knee
to Baal, nor was Ahab so impolitic as to exclude those from offices that were
fit to serve him, merely because they would not join with him in his devotions.
That man that is
true to his EL will be faithful to his prince. Obadiah therefore could with a
good conscience enjoy the place, and therefore would not decline it, nor give
it up, though he foresaw he could not do the good he desired to do in it. Those
that fear YAHVEH need not go out of the world, bad as it is.
It was strange that
either he did not reform Ahab or Ahab corrupt him; but it seems they were both
fixed; he that was filthy would be filthy still, and he that was holy would be
holy still. Those fear YAHVEH greatly that keep up the fear of him in bad times
and places; thus Obadiah did. YAHVEH has HIS remnant among all sorts, high and
low; there were saints in Nero’s household, and in Ahab’s.
1Ki 18:4 And it came to be, while Izeḇel cut
down the prophets of יהוה ,
that Oḇaḏyahu had taken one hundred prophets and hidden them, fifty to a
cave, and had fed them with bread and water. – This great good man used his power for the
protection of YAH’s prophets. He hid 100 of them in two caves, when the
persecution was hot, and fed them with bread and water. He did not think
it enough to fear YAHVEH HIMSELF, but, having wealth and power wherewith to do
it, he thought himself obliged to assist and countenance others that feared YAHVEH;
nor did he think his being kind to them would excuse him from being good
himself, but he did both, he both feared ABBA YAHVEH greatly himself and
patronised those that feared him likewise.
See how wonderfully
ABBA YAHVEH raises up friends for HIS ministers and people, for their shelter
in difficult times, even where one would least expect them.
1Ki 18:5 And Aḥaḇ had said to Oḇaḏyahu, “Go into the land to all the springs of
water and to all the wadis, it could be that we find grass to keep the horses
and mules alive, and not have any livestock cut off. – When
Jezebel cut off YAH’s prophets YAHVEH cut off the necessary provisions by the
extremity of the drought. Perhaps Jezebel persecuted YAH’s prophets under
pretence that they were the cause of the judgment, because Elijah had foretold
it. Away with believers to the lions. But ABBA YAHVEH made them know the
contrary, for the famine continued till Baal’s prophets were sacrificed, and so
great a scarcity of water there was that the king himself and Obadiah went in
person throughout the land to seek for grass for the cattle.
Providence ordered
it so, that Ahab might, with his own eyes, see how bad the consequences of this
judgment were, that so he might be the better inclined to hearken to Elijah,
who would direct him into the only way to put an end to it. Ahab’s care was not
to lose all the beasts, many being already lost; but he took no care
about his soul, not to lose that; he took a deal of pains to seek grass, but
none to seek the favour of YAHVEH, fencing against the effect, but not
enquiring how to remove the cause. The land of Judah lay close to the land of
Yisrael, yet we find no complaint there of the want of rain; for Judah yet
ruled with YAHVEH, and was faithful with the saints and prophets (Hos.
11:12), by which distinction Yisrael might plainly have seen the ground of
YAH’s controversy, when YAHVEH caused it to rain upon one city and not upon
another (Amos 4:7, 8); but they blinded their eyes, and hardened their
hearts, and would not see.
1Ki 18:6 And they divided the land between them to pass over it, Aḥaḇ went one way
by himself, and Oḇaḏyahu went another way by himself. –
1Ki 18:7 And as Oḇaḏyahu was on his way, then
see, Ěliyahu met him. And he recognised him, and fell on his face, and said,
“Is that you, my master Ěliyahu?” - Eliyah first surrendered, or rather discovered, himself to Obadiah. He
knew, by the Spirit, where to meet him, and we are here told what passed
between them.
Obadiah saluted him with great respect, fell
on his face, and humbly asked, Art thou that my lord Eliyah? As he had shown the tenderness of a father to
the sons of the prophets, so he showed the reverence of a son to this father of
the prophets; and by this made it appear that he did indeed fear YAHWH
greatly, that he did honor to one that was his extraordinary ambassador and
had a great interest in heaven.
Eliyah, in answer to
him, transfers the title of honor he gave him to Ahab: "Call him thy lord,
not me;’’ that is a fitter title for a prince than for a prophet, who seeks
not honor from men. Prophets should be called seers, and shepherds,
and watchmen, and ministers, rather than lords, as those
that mind duty more than dominion.
1Ki 18:8 And he answered him, “It is I. Go, say
to your master, ‘Ěliyahu is here.’ ” – He bids Obadiah go and tell the king that he is there to speak with
him: Tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is forth-coming. He would have the
king know before, that it might not be a surprise to him and that he might be
sure it was the prophet’s own act to present himself to him. Obadiah begs to be
excused from carrying this message to Ahab, for it might prove as much as his
life was worth.
1Ki 18:9 And he said, “What have I sinned, that you are giving your servant into the
hand of Aḥaḇ, to kill me? - He pleads that he did not deserve to be exposed, and
put in peril of his life: What have I said amiss? Was it not told my lord how I hid the
prophets? He mentions this, not in pride or ostentation, but to convince
Elijah that though he was Ahab’s servant he was not in his interest, and
therefore deserved not to be bantered as one of the tools of his persecution.
He that had protected so many prophets, he hoped, should not have his own life
hazarded by so great a prophet.

Qorintyah Bet
“Second Corintians”3:1-8
The apostle makes an
apology for his seeming to commend himself, and is careful not to assume too
much to himself, but to ascribe all praise unto YAHVEH verse 1-5. He then draws
a comparison between the Old Testament and the New, and shows the excellency of
the later above the former verse 6 – 8.
2Co 3:1 Are we to begin to
recommend ourselves again? Or do we need, as some, letters of recommendation to
you, or from you?
- The apostle makes an
apology for seeming to commend himself. He thought it convenient to protest his
sincerity to them, because there were some at Corinth who endeavoured to blast his
reputation; yet he was not desirous of vain-glory. And he tells them, that he
neither needed nor desired any verbal commendation to them, nor letters
testimonial from them, as some others did, meaning the false apostles or
teachers.
His ministry among
them had, without controversy, been truly great and honorable, how little
soever his person was in reality, or how contemptible soever some would have
him thought to be.
2Co 3:2 You are our letter, having been written in
our hearts, known and read by all men, - The Corinthians themselves were his real
commendation, and a good testimonial for him, that YAHVEH was with him of a
truth, that he was sent of YEHWEH: You
are our epistle.
This was the
testimonial he most delighted in, and what was most dear to him-they were
written in his heart; and this
he could appeal to upon occasion, for it was, or might be, known and read of all men.
There is nothing
more delightful to faithful ministers, nor more to their commendation, than the
success of their ministry, evidenced in the hearts and lives of those among
whom they labour.
2Co 3:3 making it obvious that you are a letter of
Messiyah, served by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living
Elohim, not on tablets of stone but on fleshly tablets of the heart.
– The apostle is careful not to
assume too much to himself, but to ascribe all the praise to YAHVEH. Therefore,
He says they were the epistle of Messiyah. The apostle and others were
but instruments, Messiyah was the author of all the good that was in them. The
law of Messiyah was written in their hearts, and the love of Messiyah shed
abroad in their hearts. This epistle was not written with ink, but with the
Spirit of the living EL; nor was it written in tables of stone, as
the law of ABBA YAHVEH given to Moses, but on the heart; and that heart
not a stony one, but a heart of flesh, upon the fleshy (not fleshly,
as fleshliness denotes sensuality) tables of the heart, that is, upon
hearts that are softened and renewed by divine grace, according to that
gracious promise, I will take away the stony heart, and I will give you a
heart of flesh, Eze. 36:26.
2Co 3:4 And such trust we have toward Elohim, through
the Messiyah. – This was the good hope the apostle had concerning these Corinthians
that their hearts were like the ark of the covenant, containing the tables of
the law and the gospel, written with the finger, that is, by the Spirit, of the
living Elohim.
2Co 3:5 Not that we are competent in ourselves to
reckon any matter as from
ourselves, but our competence is from Elohim, - He utterly disclaims the taking of any praise to
themselves, and ascribes all the glory to ABBA YAHVEH: "We are not
sufficient of ourselves. We could never have made such good impressions on
your hearts, nor upon our own. Such are our weakness and inability that we
cannot of ourselves think a good thought, much less raise any good thoughts or
affections in other men. All our sufficiency is of ABBA YAHVEH; to him
therefore are owing all the praise and glory of that good which is done, and
from HIM we must receive grace and strength to do more.’’ This is true
concerning ministers and all believers; the best are no more than what the
grace of YAHVEH makes them. Our hands are not sufficient for us, but our
sufficiency is of YAHVEH; and his grace is sufficient for us, to furnish us for
every good word and work.
2Co 3:6 who also made us
competent as servants of a renewed covenant, not of the letter but of the
Spirit, for the letter kills but the Spirit gives life.
– Here
the apostle makes a comparison between the pre Messiyah and post Messiyah Word,
the law of Moses and the gospel of Messiyah Yahushua, and values himself and
his fellow-labourers by this, that they
were able ministers of the renewed Covenant, that ABBA YAHVEH had made
them so. This he does in answer to the accusations of false teachers, who
magnify greatly the law of Moses.
He distinguishes
between the letter and the spirit even of the renewed Covenant. As able
ministers of the New Testament, they were ministers not merely of the letter,
to read the written word, or to preach the letter of the gospel only, but they
were ministers of the Spirit also; the Spirit of YAHVEH did accompany their
ministrations.
The letter killeth; this the letter of
the law does, for that is the ministration of death; and if we rest only in the
letter of the gospel we shall be never the better for so doing, for even that
will be a savour of death unto death;
but the Spirit of the gospel, going along with the ministry of the gospel,
giveth life spiritual and life eternal.
2Co 3:7 But if the administering of death in letters,
engraved on stones, was esteemed, so that the children of Yisra’ĕl were unable
to look steadily at the face of Mosheh because of the esteem of his face, which
was passing away, - He shows the difference between the Old Testament and the New, and the
excellency of the gospel above the law. The law defines sin, and the blessing
and the curse of the law . This showed us a Elohim above us and a EL against
us; but the gospel define unlimited grace, and Emmanuel, YAH with us.
Upon this account the gospel is more glorious than the law; and yet that had a
glory in it, witness the shining of Moses’s face (an indication thereof) when
he came down from the mount with the tables in his hand, that reflected rays of
brightness upon his countenance.
2Co 3:8 how much more esteemed shall the
administering of the Spirit not be? - The
law was the ministration of blessing
and condemnation, for that condemned and cursed every one who continued not in all things written therein
to do them; but the gospel is the ministration
of righteousness by the blood of Messiyah: therein the righteousness of YAHVEH
by faith is revealed. This shows us that the just shall live by faith in the
Messiyah, and the holy Spirit that was send when Messiyah assended to Heavens.
