This Torah Portion is the 46 portion in the Torah Cycle. Usually the word “עקב Ekev” means heel. In fact, this word shares the same three root word as the name Jacob, who was born holding on to his brother heel.

However, in this forty-six reading, the third in Deuteronomy the word עקב ekev means “on the heel of,” or “because of.

It is used in the first verse of this portion, which says: “and it shall come to past, because you hearken to these ordinances and keep and do them, that יהוה your Elohim shall establish with you the covenant and the kindness which He swore to your fathers.” This portion of Deuteronomy describe the good things that will happen on the heel of believers who keep to the path of righteousness.

From a Kabbalistic standpoint, this portion is about the power of unity and, specifically, the understanding that even the greatest souls cannot do on their own what lesser souls can do if they have unity.

In order for an Assembly to be able to reveal great light, it is important that no one individual view him or her self, as more important than anyone else.  The smaller the ego, the greater the Light they will received. The person who view themselves as the least of the group is the one who is responsible for opening up the gate of blessing and abundance from Above.

This is true only when we assembly together for spiritual reasons. It is also true with family and with work. The gift of this Sabbath is the understanding that nothing in the world can bring as much blessing as that of unity.
The Torah uses the Hebrew Word עקב ekev, which mean heel to indicate that our journey to perfection is strictly about the diminishing of the selfish ego. What every believer want to awaken on this Sabbath is not just another understanding of how important it is to diminish our ego; we also want to grasp the idea of being a heel, of being the lowest or been humble.

It is only someone who accomplish greater and greater diminishment of his or her ego who merit hearing the Word of the Creator, that is why we are told Moses was the most humblest of Soul. Did he hear the voice of the Creator?

The greatest spiritual decrement or secrets are found in the place that are least populated, the place where it is the quietest, where we are the least comfortable. This lesson applies to finding a teacher as much as it does to our spiritual life, but in both case, one sure sign that our spiritual journey is no the right track is its unpopularity. If our spiritual works is seen and applauded by everyone, that is the time to question our motive.

Our secular society is one that is based upon popularity. An Internet is consider successful according to the number of hit it receive, this is called going viral.

On the Sabbath of Ekev, we witness the power of unity, and we know that seeing ourselves as the weakest link in the chain allow us to be a receptor for the Light of the CREATOR. On this Sabbath we also should become aware that the feeling, the faith of our soul, and the faith of our friends help to breakdown all the barriers our negative actions have erected between the Holy Spirit and ourselves.

All our spiritual life should be centered around the desire for the diminishment of our ego, and become the heel the lowest part of the body is the part that supports the whole body.

This Parashas continue with Moses encouragement to the nation, to trust in  יהוה in order to ensure their successful in conquest of the Land and the abundant blessing in every aspect of their lives. The conquering of the land, is a parable of conquering or selfish ego. He stress again and again that all vestiges of idolatry had to be eliminate from our life and the land, for idolatry is an investment in the selfish ego.

This chapter is broken down in the following area:
1. In general, that, if they would serve YAHVEH, HE would bless and prosper them verse 12–15.

2. In particular, that if they would drive out the nations, that they might not be a temptation to them, YAHVEH would drive them out, that they should not be any vexation to them verse 17.

Torah Portion Va’etchanan, which means “and I besought,” is the 45 Portion in the Torah cycle, it begins with Moses pleading with the Creator to let him enter into the Promise Land.

O Master יהוה , You have begun to show Your servant Your greatness and Your strong hand, for who is a Mighty”god” One in the Heavens or on earth who does according to Your works and according to Your might.” Let me go over, I pray You, to let me see the Good Land that is beyond the Jordan, those pleasant Mountain and Lebanon.

We know from Torah that Moses originally intended to lead the Yisraelites not only out of Egypt, but into the Land of Yisrael as all of the Mighty Hand ministry should. We also know that this never happened. Much like today, how many believers made it into the Promis Land, full maturity, the Holiy of Holies?

The message of this Torah Portion is this: we must seize every opportunity, they are not limitless, nor are they available everywhere. They can only be found here in this world. Whether it is our relationship with our: CREATOR, Spouse, Parent, Children or Friends, our chances to work on it are finite in number and infinitely precious.

We all start our spiritual journey when we arrive at the first heaven, or the first day of Creation, we are to faithfully carry our cross, until we complete all sixth days of Creation and arrive victoriously back into the seventh Heaven.

Moses desire was for him to set foot in the Promise Land the Earthly represent of the seventh Heaven. He also knew that this was actually YAHVEH Will for all of mankind. So in asking permission for YAHVEH to go over is not relying a challenge to YAHVEH it was a desire to fulfilled Torah.

Deu 3:24O Masterיהוה , You have begun to show Your servant Your greatness and Your strong hand, for who is a mighty one in the Heavens or on earth who does according to Your works and according to Your might?  - What Moses pleads here for was two things: — The great experience which he had had of YAH’s goodness to him in what he had done for Yisrael: "You hast begun to show your servant your greatness.

Moses requested that ABBA YAHVEH perfected or complete what HE has begun. YOU hast given me the privilege to see your glory in the conquest of these two kings, and the experience has affected me with wonder and thankfulness. O let me see more of the outcome of my EL, my Kings great work! This great work, no doubt, will be carried on and completed; let me have the satisfaction of seeing its completion.’’

The greatest work in this world that anyone can achieve is to complete the sixth days of Creation or to experience the Seventh Heaven spiritually. It is not reserved for the wealth of the world, and your soul can achieve what it was destined to achieved.

The more we see of YAH’s glory in HIS works, the more we shall desire to see it come to a conclusion. The works of YAHVEH are great, and therefore are desired by those who desire to reach spiritual maturity.

The great impressions that had been made upon Moses Neshoma by what he had seen: For what Elohim ”the gods” is there in Heavens or earth that can do according to Yahweh’s work? The more we are affected with what we have seen of YAHVEH, of HIS Wisdom, Power, and Goodness, the better we are prepared for further discoveries.

Those that see the works of YAHVEH and admire HIM in them, like Moses had expressed himself concerning YAHVEH and HIS works long before (Ex. 15:11), and HE still continues of the same mind, that there are no works worthy to be compared with YAH’s works, Ps. 86:8.
